Hi,
I have a new hp dv6000 comes with vista home premium.It is really slow very
slow.I have plans to downgrade it to XP pro i need your advice i heard people
saying this may bring some trouble and some drivers may not work kindly help
me in downgrading vista

The only reliable way to downgrade is to purchase an xp tablet version
for that machine from the oem (hp)

Simply installing XP pro will result in loosing tablet functionality...
even if you successfully install all of the necessary drivers.

It _is_ however, important to remember that microsoft will not be there
if the process fails... and, without a full backup or oem recovery
disks, you create a one way conversion of a tablet to a laptop ;-/

Spending a bit of time in the tutorial, the following points seem to be
key and would be show stoppers since the XP tablet version is not
available separately;

Obtain the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 media

Obtain and use a tablet edition specific product key... "If a Windows XP
Professional product key is used, Windows XP Professional will be
installed instead of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005."

What it says is that you can install XP Pro or XP Tablet from the same
installation image and gives instructions for adding the Tablet
installation components to an existing XP Pro installation image.

It actually explicitly says you can't upgrade an existing XP Pro
installation to XP Tablet.

See Item 5 of preparing your image

"Due to the implementation of the Tablet PC component installation
during setup, you cannot install any missing Tablet PC components at a
later time."

OK, I'm willing to learn...

....in reading the referenced page, it also explicitly states that both
an XP tablet os key and a valid XP tabletpc os is required.

since this OP (and many others here) don't have either, and, afaik,
these are not purchasable by end users, please clarify how someone with
vista tablet would use this info to downgrade their machines to the xp
tablet os.

I think that the problem is just that the MS article is
confusing and/or poorly written.

As a MSDN subscriber, I used my key to the XPT install
on the MSDN DVD to upgrade a Fujitsu U810 from
Vista Home Prem. due to the plethora of problems stemming
from Vista. I just let XPT delete the old Vista install during
text-mode Setup.

A little background: When you boot to the XPT install disc,
the install procedure looks identical to an install of XP Pro UNTIL
you are almost done. Then the install stops and asks you for DISK2.
DISK2 has 85 MB of Tablet specific stuff like the TIP, Ink and Journal
in the CMPNENTS\TABLET directory. Install finishes from DISK2.

But, the tablet features will NOT work properly until you install the
hardware-specific drivers for the touchscreen, etc. after the install,
at which point your device acts like any device running XP Pro.

Those device drivers must be
provided by the manufacturer of your device.

Once you've done that, you're off to the races.

So, unless you have the XPT device driver suite for your tablet,
installing XPT may get you no more functionality than an install of XP Pro
will.
