Every once in a while they have some problems with the special Tablet PC hardware but not as often as you might think. Always remember, people usually only post in newsgroups when they have problems. so seeing a lot of posts about problems doesn't mean anything unless you compare it to the number of posts for other laptops and desktop's. You will find they are about the same. |

| Re: help in buying tablet pc!!!! I'm on my 3rd tablet :) First two broke the LCD. Both were left on standby overnight all the time so I wouldn't recommend that. | RE: help in buying tablet pc!!!! I have a Gateway 275XL Tablet, and I am very happy with it. I bought it because I will be attending medical school soon, and I wanted something to take notes on. My advice is, buy the extended warranty no matter what type of machine you get. This is my 4th laptop and I have bought the extended warranty on all of them, and it is worth it. Something always tends to malfunctions and I have saved hundreds of dollars in repairs. Also, this time, I purchased the accidental loss/damage insurance from Gateway, So if I screw up the laptop as a result of my own negligence, I will get a brand new one "idan" wrote: > i need your help, i am going to the university and i consider to buy a tablet pc > > i heard that tablet pc has a lot of problems and that he tend to brak down, i am not taking about the windows,i am taking about the computer itself.... > > i would also like you to recomend me to a good tablet pc and tell me about is disadventeges. > i need a tablet pc becuase i need to write and i need a way to put it on a computer. > i am from israel and i write in hebrew and i also want to ask if it would be aproblem? |

There seem to be some problems with the accu of the C102, but that's a problem of some notebooks, too. Tablets are designed to carry around, to write on the display, etc. I wouldn't say they break more often than regular notebooks. | RE: help in buying tablet pc!!!! I would strongly recommend a Tablet PC, specifically a slate. Many of the problems I have read about (other than dropping the **** thing) occur with the hinge. Besides, why carry the weight of a keyboard if you don't have to. I love my Motion m1300 . I bought it as a toy and it has proven to be the most useful tool I have for my job. Your first purchase after the PC should be GoBinder. It can carry everything you need in one place. Having said all this, I have no idea how well the tablet will recognize Hebrew. I would suggest asking that question directly here and in other for a such as Tablet PC Buzz. Dave |

| RE: help in buying tablet pc!!!! Well, I think that if you're going to college, a Tablet PC would be much better than a slate. Isn't a slate usually good when you're carrying around the thing a lot and don't need the functionality of a traditional laptop. In college, you'll need the tablet part when taking notes in class/lecture, but the traditional laptop part the other times. I know for a fact that in college that I've needed a traditional laptop countless times to do research in the library or when i'm surfing the internet at a cafe or at one of the many Wi-Fi zones at our school. There are still times when you need the comfort of a good old fashioned keyboard. If you get a slate, you won't get that. Yeah you can hook up a keyboard or hook it up to a docking station, but you can only do that at home; who wants to drag around a keyboard everywhere you go. So I'd say get a slate or one of the models that fuctions as both a convertible and a slate. RV "Dave_p_1" wrote: > I would strongly recommend a Tablet PC, specifically a slate. | Re: help in buying tablet pc!!!! Slates have "clip-on" keyboards for the occasional use, and one can use USB or wireless keyboards, too. I have a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite I use with my Motion 1300 when it is in docked mode. One doesn't need to purchase a convertible Tablet PC just for the keyboard. -- Chris H. | Re: help in buying tablet pc!!!! I have a motion 1400 slate and its great. I have dropped it 1 time (about 2 feet) it just kept on surfing the web from the floor. There are no hinges to crack or break and a usb keyboard if needed. It does not require a fan and the built-in array mic is excellent for speech. Deb |

| Re: help in buying tablet pc!!!! FWIW, I have a Motion 1300 with the keyboard that fits into the cover. It doesn't weigh any more than the original cover. I have found though that I seldom need it. I surf the net without it, compose email with the pen (the handwriting recognition is sufficient), take notes in meetings in ink in Journal (I don't even bother to convert to text).
