XP tablet Edition sp2

I installed the service pack 2 for my xp tablet edition ...and i noticed that the " xp tablet edition" logo during the running process of the Os disappeared . why? Is it still tablet edition, or just became xp professional? thanks.

Yes, that's correct. Microsoft has changed the branding on the splash
screen only for all versions, Home, Pro, Media Center Edition and Tablet PC
Edition. You can right-click My Computer, select Properties and still see
the individual "superset" of MCE or Tablet PC on the General tab.

Re: XP tablet Edition sp2

Thanks Chris for your quickly reply.

Just wanna tell you it's a shame, i used to like the tablet edition brand so much.
it made me feel more and more lucky to be a owner of a tablet.
Tablet can be the wave of the future.
Chances the logo gonna come back again, visually speaking?

I doubt it. Microsoft finally decided that having all the different splash
screens apparently wasn't worth it.

I agree - I liked seeing "Media Center Edition" or "Tablet PC Edition"
on the splash screen. There are third party tools out there that will
change your splash screen, so if you really miss it, you can always
change yourself over to something else again.

That's a shame, although I can understand why they've done it (to make
the statement that a Tablet PC is really a laptop, not something weird!)

That addition is omitted after SP2 in all variants of XP , not just
Tablet. They are all simply Windows XP

Re: XP tablet Edition sp2

It isn't just on Tablet PCs, Ian, but on Media Center Edition systems, too.
Of course, both the Tablet and MCE systems run on Windows XP Pro as a
superset, so correctly it is not the Tablet PC "operating system."

Commonality of branding saves a lot of internal headaches in programming,
and can actually make starting the system quicker. No longer does the
boot-up need to determine which "version" of the operating system it is
launching and properly select the correct splash screen for display. For as
long as that screen shows, I don't miss it.

As for the differences between Tablets (the ones we have currently) and
laptops, there is going to be a blending in the future with the full-sized
portable machines also running the Tablet superset.

Re: XP tablet Edition sp2

Hello All,

Along the same lines, I have update a couple of Tablets with SP2 and
afterwards the on screen input keyboard's colors reversed. Any Idea how to
revert it back to normal?
I have removed and reinstalled SP2 and it is still the same.

Re: XP tablet Edition sp2

Make sure you check all your drivers, even if they're the originals. Most
manufacturers have updated drivers, especially Toshiba. If you're looking
for the same appearance as the original keyboard, it isn't. Microsoft
changed things, but, depending of what Theme you may be running, the
appearance will also change. I have some samples on the Tutorials page of
my web site which are the "default" appearance.
