RAM upgrade

I've asked this elsewhere but haven't really gotten a clear response, so
I'll ask it here...

Can you upgrade the RAM on an Acer c303 one slot at a time, or is it
imperative that both slots must hold the same size ram?

I've gotten myself into a bind where one gig of RAM is not enough but I
don't have the money to buy 2 one gig sticks. Can I buy one l gig stick,
replace the 512 I have in there now, leaving me with a total of 1.5 gigs of
RAM? Or do I have to buy two sticks at a time?

Re: RAM upgrade

I don't know about the c303 but the c110 can see any combination of DIMMs in
either slot. The catch is they are very picky about the RAM they use,
especially in the 1GB+ size. You may have to spring for high-end Kingston
RAM (which they gurantee will work) if a cheaper stick isn't recognized.

Thanks Jeff. How 'bout Crucial? I am rather partial to that brand. I prefer
high end regardless.

Re: RAM upgrade

I've had good luck with crucial too. Interestingly, I am corresponding with
them over an upgrade for the C110. They claim the limit is 1GB (2 512s) but
Kingston and Acer both show the limit as 2GB. Crucial will give you your
money back if it doesn't work though.

Re: RAM upgrade

Hi, Jeff,

When the Acer was built, it had 2G capacity, however noone made 1G sticks to
fit it at that time, so the actual limit was really 1G. Not sure if that's
changed yet or not.

Dear Jeff, I added memory from Crucial to my ACER C-110-CTi too, a
very good decision, but I couldn't found the second slot, where is it
located?

Juan,

The second RAM slot is usually under the keyboard.

Re: RAM upgrade

That is what I've seen on posts too. There are a few 1GB sticks that work,
but the only one I know about for sure is the Kingston.

Juan,

See this link for an example with the Acer 110. Note that there is some
confusion as to what effect doing this yourself has on your warrantee

Re: RAM upgrade

RE the second slot, it is under the keyboard. Rather than mess with it I
took it over to Micro Center and for $19 they swapped out the ram for me.
Normally I would do it myself but I didn't feel like removing something like
12 screws and a bunch of other stuff to get to the slot when for $19 they'd
do it for me.
