| PDF's I have a need to take an existing pdf, create markups on the pdf after converting to windows journal and then I need to convert back to pdf. I seem to be able to complete the steps, however, when the pdf is re-opened, it is cryptic. You cannot read the text. I need to be able to put the file back into a program that a mac user can at least read/view. Any suggestions? FYI: I have Acrobat 6.0. This program does allow to make edits, but it is not nearly as user friendly. I'd prefer the journal capabilities. THX |

| Re: PDF's Deb, about the only way to do it is printing the PDF directly using the Windows Journal Printer. This will allow you to import the items (although a heavy-duty document that's lengthy may be a pain. Otherwise, support needs to come from Adobe's adjustment of their product. Microsoft can't do it. -- Chris H. | Re: PDF's Another option is to export the Journal files (that you've created from the PDFs) as B&W Tiffs, or as MHTML (Web archive) files. If your Mac browser doesn't support these, it is possible to open them in IE for Windows and save them as HTML documents or recover some image files with the content you need. Of course if you have the documents that the PDF was created from then you can shortcut the intermediate print processes. Scansoft has a product that will extract editble content from PDF files too if you don't have access to the originals and do this task frequently. | Re: PDF's Deb, This is actually a font embedding issue and it's due to some bad UI on Adobe's part that overrides your settings to embed fonts. It's very easy to fix however 1. Print the PDF to Journal as you always have and mark it up with ink. 2. Click the Print button in Journal and select the Adobe PDF as the printer in the Print Dialog, but don't print it yet 3. Before you print, click the preferences button in the Print Dialog to open the Adobe PDF Settings. In that window is a checkbox for "Do Not Send fonts to Adobe PDF." It's near the bottom. Uncheck that box. 4. Click the appropriate okay buttons and print the document. It will open readably in Acrobat. This checkbox overrides any font settings you make in Acrobat. It's annoying, and it always appears checked. I do the same document workflow myself and it works fine if the fonts embed.
