| Is there a way to assign "Shift" and "Control" to a tablet button? It would often be quite helpful to have hardware Shift- and Control- buttons, esp. when one wants to select multiple items in lists with ranges). Not all prgm's are sufficiently pen-aware and offer lists with selection checkboxes as eg. Vista's Explorer. The control field on my MotionComputing LE 1700 tablet has a little applet to assign misc. actions (like starting arbitrary programs) or special key combinations to the available HW buttons, alas, with the notable exception of "Shift" and "Control". These two keys one can apparently only assign in combination with others (e.g. Shift-Tab or Ctrl-Enter) but not as individual keypresses. Has anyone an idea how one could "trick" that applet or are there other utilities that would allow to achieve this, so one could press one of the HW buttons while selecting list items with the pen? | Re: Is there a way to assign "Shift" and "Control" to a tablet button? The tip keyboard shift/ctrl/alt keys are "sticky" Tap the shift key in the tip, them use the pen the same way you would with your finger on the matching hardware key. As far as utilities or penstrokes to do the same, not aware of any. Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

But I find that a bit cumbersome. I have to bring up the TIP, switch it to keyboard (since mine is usally on handwriting), hit the shift or control button and only then one can start selecting... And after the selection reverse all that... Hoped, there might be something a bit more user friendly... Cheers, Michael |

| RE: Is there a way to assign "Shift" and "Control" to a tablet button? Used to be possible in XP but not in Vista, now Ctrl alone can be assigned but not Shift... I have to say : I wish some MVPs took the dive and found something on that one... |

Any assumption that ms listens to mvps more than other users is incorrect... in my experience, if anything, user problems presented by mvp's have even less value that those presented by other users. Despite a few recent posts, the ms tablet team has proven to be one of the more reclusive and unresponsive departments within the soundproof walls of microsoft. I guess, they took the "usual" business decision: if there is no (immediate) large gain visible, why should they spend a dime? Probably there isn't anybody left working on tablet-SW... Michael |
