Password login on my M200

I have my notebook closed for at least 24 hrs and when I open it up it goes
right to the desktop sometimes and other times it prompts me for a password?

Shouldn't it always prompt me for a password?

Re: Password login on my M200

Depends on how you have it set up, Rick. Check in Control Panel/User
Accounts. There is a section Learn About, then Logon options.

LOL! Good thing you asked, Rick. I followed the pattern and discovered I'm
running Fast User Switching on this system, and I don't need to. 8-)

Re: Password login on my M200

Hmm, I didn't see anything in the Control Panel/User acounts for "Learn
About or Logon Options" other than box to require control+alt+delete.

But my tablet is a member of a Windows 2003 domain with Fast User Switching
set to manual under Services so maybe that removed the option. Who knows.

Re: Password login on my M200

Using the Welcome Screen (as described in the right pane), you can require
users to logon instead of just tapping their name. Additionally, in Display
Properties/Screen Saver, you can require set password protection on Resume.

Welcome screen will be disabled when the device is a member of the
domain though.

In addition to the resume password requirement Chris mentioned in the
display properties applet, there's one in power to require the
password when resuming.

Re: Password login on my M200

That explains it, as a member of a domain I don't get the "Welcome" screen.
It goes bye-bye as soon as I join the computer to the domain and frankly I
don't miss it.

No option to click on a name, gotta ctr+alt+del and type in name, password
and make sure the correct domain is showing in the dropdown box.

I believe you can still lock-down the computer with the screensaver method,
Cheryl, if that's what you'd like to do.

Re: Password login on my M200

I already have the settings I want I was just curious about this button I
didn't have. Since one of the first things I do with a new computer is join
it to my domain so I can get access to updates, files, programs that reside
on the server I never see what a non-domain user sees. Guess I could go log
into my 6 year olds computer that is not connected to the domain (or the
internet for that matter) and see what a "default" install looks like. <grin
/>

Course I wouldn't get the tablet features on his hand me down P-III 500.

That I have but I use the "classic" menu, the XP menu takes up too much
space for my taste. Clicked through it the first time I ran the tablet. I
have never been able to get the tutorials from the link at the end of "Get
Going with Tablet PC" so I don't know what might have been in those.
