Symantec Endpoint Protection

Is anybody running SEP on their system? By any chance do you have it running
on a Lenovo? I'm still using my X41 and we recently installed SEP 11 on our
network. It's not playing nicely with my X41, but it seems to be doing okay
with the other clients on the network.

I thought I'd ask... thanks

Re: Symantec Endpoint Protection

Hi Howard - Symantec products I keep off my systems entirely because they're
pretty invasive. I don't recommend running programs from companies that
want to control everything, and cannot even write a proper uninstall routine
for their own programs. 8-)

Re: Symantec Endpoint Protection

Hi Chris,

I can appreciate that. The product seems like a good idea and appears to be
working on my server and desktops. There is something that the X41 doesn't
like about symantec. symantec antivirus corp ed didn't install easily on the
X41 either. Once we got it there, it worked like a dream. I never had any
problems with it.

It's not the applications that I have trouble with, it's their concept of
customer service that drives me to the edge. I'd rather call microsoft any
day.

Thanks, I appreciate your comments.

Re: Symantec Endpoint Protection

Used to be much easier (well, not on this particular product) to pick up the
phone and have Peter Norton answer. LOL!

Re: Symantec Endpoint Protection

Don't know about that, but I started using the product in the old dos
commander days as well. And, it's not the same any more is it?

Peter Norton helped a lot of us get through difficult times in those
early days... now, he's rich, and probably still a good guy but don't
think he, or his philosophy has much to do with Symantec any more ;-(

Re: Symantec Endpoint Protection

There are still a few there who care, I just got off the phone with an
engineer who worked with me and treated me with respect. She also was
apologized profusely for the other parts of the experience that she did not
have any control over or part of.

I think that if Peter is lurking in this NG he should find this person in
the Oregon office and give a good pat on the back for a job well done. The
CS guy and his supervisor who took mercy on me and allowed me to pushed my
support agreement into the system started the turn-around process for the
day's experience. Until that point, my opinion of symantec was as low as it
had ever been. I'm sure that this experience does not characterize their
typical customer support event.
