| Request input regarding purchase of a new tablet pc Looking to replace my broken laptop with a tablet pc. Never had any experience with them.. Are all major brands pretty much the same? Are there any considerations you wished you had reviewed before your purchase? I know the screen size maxes out at 12.1" but plan to use an external monitor with it at home. Will they support 1600 x 1200 resolution 20" flat panel monitors? How about wide screen monitors? Thanks for any input. |

| Re: Request input regarding purchase of a new tablet pc Well there are several models. Depends on how much power you need. wacom tablet pc's run 3,000 to the lowest being 1,999 or to get you started you could purchase a a refurbished hp tc1100 series from amazon. like i said it depends on what you are going to do weather you are going to purchase a dock or keyboard it all depends screen resolution also falls under this depends on how much power you have on your graphics card will affect the resolution also remember if you are planing on gaming you will need a external keyboard because certain games touch screens dont work in like halo if you try to run halo with the table pen the pen just bounces all over the place. from my experiance. I love my tablet i purchased a used hp tc1100 series tablet fully loaded for 600.00 at my local recycle pc store and i just recently purchased the keyboard and even better the dock from ebay for my tablet as well if you are going to get a tablet make sure of 5 key items that you must have with your tablet. 1.a keyboard make sure it comes with the keyboard attachment if not make sure you can get the keyboard from ebay or amazon 2. a docking stand a must because all docking stands contain and house your cd-rom drive and even sometimes additional features like more graphics card memory 3. the original restore cd's make sure you get them with your tablet dont purchase a tablet that has the reinstallation program on the hard drive in a hidden partition if you get a virus you are totally &*(*&. 4.make sure the manufacturer still produces parts for the model you are looking at. 5.if the unit comes with wireless ask if the wireless card can be upgraded several newer tablet pc units have a mini-pci slot to be able to upgrade your wireless if it comes built in and is non upgradable do not by it you want to keep your upgrade standards with wireless make sure it has a mini-pci slot to upgrade the tablet's wireless functions. |

| Re: Request input regarding purchase of a new tablet pc probably the most important thing to understand is the difference between wacom pen input and touchscreen input and to know which the unit you plan to purchase has... wacom is better, probably more accurate and requires a special pen so you can write with your hand resting on the screen where you can only touch the screen with the stylus using a touchscreen. If the majority of use will be while walking or standing, the ~8" screens or "slates" (no keyboard) are easier to carry and handle without a table. min 1 gig ram imho, the fujitsu's are more expensive, but good. Note that there are now a number of UMPC's (ultra mobile pc's) which are almost as small as a PDA but with the full power of a laptop... all touchscreen, battery life is an issue, docking stations and other addon's add usability. | RE: Request input regarding purchase of a new tablet pc It really does come down to what your needs are regarding functionality and features. I recently purchased an Asus R1F series tablet for around $1500 and it's pretty amazing. Dual core, 13.3" WXGA display, built in wireless and Bluetooth, hot-swap drive/extra battery bay (with LiteOn DVD RW drive typically included), Bluetooth mouse, sleeve, travel case, AC adapter/charger and various connectors and cables. The only downside is no proprietary MS Office suite but the tablet, packaging, and contents are unbelievable. Anyone considering a tablet should definitely check out what Asus has to offer.
