| Think this is my next PocketPC fwiw, I think this is my next PocketPC; http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Eco...do?series=U810 It's been a wild ride watching the PocketPC platform evolve for almost 8 years, but the last couple of those have been kinda discouraging plus the question marks which arise therefrom about the future of the PPC platform in general, so, my next search will be for a solid bluetooth handset to companion with it although the pda2k may suffice until it reaches the end of it's life. I really like what I have experienced with the T4215 and the U810 looks like it's going to provide a lot of flexibility in hardware that, while a compromise, might be able to replace both my current ppc and desktop as my computer needs dwindle with age. While I like the T4215, it's proving to be too large for most of my anticipated mobile needs although it will likely be around for a while as my primary computer. Nothing concrete yet, and will not take the hook until after Christmas, but would like input from anyone who has one or has looked at the U810 as well. Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

| Re: Think this is my next PocketPC Hi Beverly, I'm considering to perhaps buy something new, too. One consideration is that it has to have a convenient vehicle mount available for purchase. The U810 does have a car windshield mount available from Ram Mount. Here is a picture: http://www.ram-mount.com/index_files/ramb166fuj2.jpg Very nice! -- Marvin Hlavac Laptop GPS World www.laptopgpsworld.com |

| Re: Think this is my next PocketPC Thanks for the link... will first see if I can use my current "button" minimalist dash mount approach which has worked well for me for several years with a number of different devices... U810 images seem to indicate that it might. <http://bevhoward.com/Meridian.htm#Dot> Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

| Re: Think this is my next PocketPC >> http://www.gottabemobile.com/FirstIm...jitsuU810.aspx << Thanks... all of the above good news at the moment. One qualifier for others who might be considering this is having used PocketPC's full time since they were first introduced... such as the touchscreen and small keyboard issues... they are non issues for me. One thing that was not covered in the above review is that the U810 has a number of button controls, most of which are accessible when in tablet mode, which makes a major difference in productive use. | Re: Think this is my next PocketPC Bev: I've seen your posts for years in various PPC forums. I just got a U810 a few weeks ago, and as a heavy user of several PPC's, the tablet mode will take some getting used to. Biggest thing I miss: When you use any of the input modes on a PPC, the text input panel for whatever mode you selected would automatically pop-up if the app needed text input. Vista tablet does not do this. Takes 1 or two extra stylus pokes to get the SIP up. It does not realize when your cursor is on the "page" in Word that you probably want to enter text (duh). Very annoying. Other than that, because of the large amt. of horsepower avail. from the Tablet PC vs. a PPC, the various input panels are wonderfully responsive and after you discard some of the things we PPC users had to learn to get SIP's to work in a PPC (like just skipping a space in the Writing tool to get a space btwn. words vs. needing to "hard enter" it on a PPC) things go pretty well. I actually use the little 810 in keyboard mode more than tablet mode. I have thin fingers and I can type WAAAYY faster on it than I can input stuff with the stylus. The 810 I got runs Vista Home Premium. It runs pretty well when you disable/uninstall stuff you don't need. Somebody has already dropped a 100G drive into the 810: http://www.gottabemobile.com/forum/f...?TID=4352&PN=2 Vance "Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev]" <BevNoSpamBevHoward.com> wrote in message news:%23n2PnFpOIHA.4740@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > >> http://www.gottabemobile.com/FirstIm...jitsuU810.aspx << > > Thanks... all of the above good news at the moment. > > One qualifier for others who might be considering this is having used > PocketPC's full time since they were first introduced... such as the > touchscreen and small keyboard issues... they are non issues for me. > > One thing that was not covered in the above review is that the U810 has > a number of button controls, most of which are accessible when in tablet > mode, which makes a major difference in productive use. > > Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

| Re: Think this is my next PocketPC While I would love to pop for one, for me it's a major purchase which I can't justify at the moment. My PDA2k is still serving me well (knock on wood) so, until it gives signs of distress, probably won't as I'm still not using the T4215 enough to justify that extravagance. >> slender lady-like fingers << Not me (see http://BevHoward.com ;-) I've actually evolved to the point where using the ppc's onscreen keyboard is fairly efficient and would probably use the 810 the same way most of the time. Its keyboard seems to be large enough to be usable in those cases where I needed to sit down and pound out a few pages of text and I would probably not carry my BT stowaway keyboard as I do now when that need comes up. I _will_ miss the PPC's options such as stroke shifting and predictive text which the tablet's tip does not know how to do. Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

| Re: Think this is my next PocketPC Beverly: While I'm sure I'm not the first person to guess wrongly at your gender, I do apologize! Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I'm a long time PPC user also and pretty good handwriter on that device. I'm drooling over the HTC Shift but that's not going to hit the US for awhile... I thought the 810 might be a good interim device. I'll let you know what happens... Thanks again, Lon __________________________________________________ _________ Lon Orenstein pinpointtools, llc Lon@pinpointtools.com Author of Outlook 2007 Business Contact Manager For Dummies Author of the eBook: Moving from ACT! to Business Contact Manager www.pinpointtools.com "Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev]" <BevNoSpamBevHoward.com> wrote in message news:uTY0he$bIHA.4140@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > While I would love to pop for one, for me it's a major purchase which I > can't justify at the moment. > > My PDA2k is still serving me well (knock on wood) so, until it gives signs > of distress, probably won't as I'm still not using the T4215 enough to > justify that extravagance. > > >> slender lady-like fingers << > > Not me (see http://BevHoward.com ;-) > > I've actually evolved to the point where using the ppc's onscreen keyboard > is fairly efficient and would probably use the 810 the same way most of > the time.
