TC1100 Display Settings Problem

When my TC1100 reboots it resets itself to the lowest display
resolution and lowest color settings, and the screen comes up all
blurry. I managed to get it to work by hard booting a few times and
boot back under normal resolution (1024x768). But this doesn't seem to
work any more.

Has anyone had this problem, I tried reinstalling the video driver and
it doesn't work. Does it sound like a bad video card - any pointers
most appreciated...

Re: TC1100 Display Settings Problem

I think there is a utility used by the Intel graphics that "persists" the
display settings and orientation. I think it's called igfxpers.exe but I
don't remember as I'm not at my tablet right now. Is this blocked from
startup or something?

You should also try booting in safe mode, then remove the drivers from the
device manager and answer yes to delete any driver files that it doesn't
need, and reinstall the latest from Intel's site.

Josh, Thanks for the note. When I hit F8 and try to get to the boot
options, because of the low resolution, I can't even read the
different options. I will try to get the igfxpers.exe program and run
it.

I was able to bring it back up in the past by hard booting it several
times and by holding the power key down to clear the BIOS etc., but
never could nail down a pattern. The only thing that is constant is
the amount of junk characters that appear on the screen as soon as I
power the machine on (which is the first sign that the display
settings is messed up).

Are the display drivers that you download from Intel different from
the ones in the HP download area?
Thanks, Ramesh

Re: TC1100 Display Settings Problem

I think we're talking about two different things. If you're saying that your
display is unreadable in *text mode* then yes, the display is faulty. Text
mode doesn't have a particular resolution. Most displays for reasons of
legacy have support for 80x25 (measured as fixed-width characters) text mode
which is used by BIOS welcome screens, parts of Windows setup, the F8 menu,
DOS, full screen command prompts, etc. If you can't read the stuff in here
then it means something in the display is critically failing. It probably
has nothing to do with resolution at all and is more likely a physical
connection to the LCD.

Contact the support department for the manufacturer of the computer.
They're the best source to know exactly what your system should have
installed and why it is behaving the way it does.
