| Writing Response Problem Hi, I'm using Fujitsu U1010 (U800) and windows journal to take quick notes. My question is: why everytime I start writing the tablet doesn't response immediately? So what I have to do now, I have to tap once anywhere in the screen first before I start writing. This always happens everytime I leave it for a few seconds before I start writing again. By the way this also happens in other applications such as sticky notes but it seems ok when I'm browsing around the desktop. Could someone help me with this? Thanks. |

| Re: Writing Response Problem It's kind of hard to tell without seeing the problem in action, but it almost sounds like an application is "stealing" the focus away from the active application. Ink applications won't accept ink if they don't have the input focus. So if Journal, for example, is the active application and then a misbehaving window "steals" the focus away, even though it appears Journal is still in front as the active application, the first click will activate it and the second will start inking. Take note of the task bar the next time this happens. See if the window of the application you think is in the foreground looked "pressed". -- Josh Einstein (Tablet PC MVP) Einstein Technologies Tablet Enhancements for Outlook - Try it free: www.tabletoutlook.com "Jimmy.Products" <JimmyProducts@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6CCD5822-F0BA-452D-87BA-2FD3A875FC85@microsoft.com... > Hi, I'm using Fujitsu U1010 (U800) and windows journal to take quick > notes. > My question is: why everytime I start writing the tablet doesn't response > immediately? | Re: Writing Response Problem Hi Josh, Thank you for your quick reply. I guess you are right that 'stealing focus' could be the one that causes the problem eventhough the Journal application button on the taskbar looked pressed. I decided to create a new Power Plan profile without changing any of the settings. And it actually seems like it solves the problem when the computer is unplugged from the power. However the problem comes back when I plug the power or wjen I switch to the High Performance Power Plan. By looking at this, I think the real culprit involves the power management that controls how the computer prioritize or conserve energy. Any tips to solve this problem? > It's kind of hard to tell without seeing the problem in action, but it > almost sounds like an application is "stealing" the focus away from the > active application. | Re: Writing Response Problem Is there any power management software installed on the tablet? Does it pop up some kind of indicator when you plug in or unplug? I doubt that it is the actual power management function that is causing the issue, but it may very well be that some kind of power management utility (these are very common, usually OEM-specific) could be stealing the input focus. For example, whenever I turn my wireless on or off, a HP indicator window pops up. It doesn't steal focus, but if it had a bug it could. -- Josh Einstein (Tablet PC MVP) Einstein Technologies Tablet Enhancements for Outlook - Try it free: www.tabletoutlook.com "Jimmy.Products" <JimmyProducts@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D42405B6-7B6E-46DB-88F4-A98B5AB4195F@microsoft.com... > Hi Josh, > Thank you for your quick reply. | Re: Writing Response Problem Nope, I'm using the Windows Power options itself. The only indicator that changes is just the battery level icon on the bottom left side of the screen when I plug and unplug the power. | Re: Writing Response Problem Hi Phil, Windows Journal Application came preinstalled with my Fujitsu U1010 (with Vista Home Premium). I'm not so sure how you can get it outside. However if you want to find out more you can check this link http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...january20.mspx "Phil l'ancien" wrote: > Jimmy.Products > > > Hi, I'm using Fujitsu U1010 (U800) and windows journal to take quick > > notes. > >... > > What is Windows journal ? > I'm looking for a good way to take notes, too. > > > Phil l'ancien- > > > |

| Re: Writing Response Problem Windows Journal is specific to, and part of, the tablet edition os and I have not seen any way for it to be installed on any other os nor found any download options. There is a "viewer" download available so that you can open and view journal files generated on the tablet on a standard pc. If it's not in your start menu, look for the directory; \program files\windows journal for the file Journal.exe Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

| Re: Writing Response Problem Beverly Howard > If it's not in your start menu, look for the directory; > \program files\windows journal As I tried to say in my previous post (sorry, english is 2nd language), Windows Journal does in fact comes preinstalled on my Asus R2H Origami UMPC, I just didn't know about it. It seems very good... but after using it, it seems to me that Origami UMPC are not very usable as a primary pen-note-taking tool. Smallness is a problem, worsened by the "very landscape 800x480" form factor. Phil l'ancien- |

| Re: Writing Response Problem Windows Journal is a very handy program originally developed for Windows XP Pro with the Tablet PC Edition launch in 2002 as an example of what could be done with the pen on Tablets. It is not available for download anywhere, since it is part of the Tablet functionalities. Microsoft did come up with a Windows Journal Reader, however, for non-Tablet PCs so the files produced in Journal could be read on other computers: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en NOTE: It is unnecessary to install this on a Tablet PC because the functions already exist. -- Chris H.
