| Input Panel Question... I'm a new user trying to find out how something works in the Input Panel application. When Input panel comes up and I'm writing in the writing pad and I have finished my line of text, I then want to hit "Enter". I've tried the "gestures" to enter an "Enter", but none of the gestures seem to work. So I have to resort to hitting the "Insert" button and then up pops the 'buttons' with Bksp, Del, Tab, Enter, Space, etc. I then hit the "Enter" button and I'm ok. However, this takes two steps (to hit the Insert button, then the Enter button). And, to make things worse, after I hit the "Enter" button, the set of buttons disappears from the writing pad until I hit the "Insert" button again. So, first question is why aren't my gestures working, and second question is how can I keep the 'buttons' up so I can use them at the end of a line of text. Third quesion would be, how to have more lines of text in the writing pad. Thanks to all who answer. Jon |

| Re: Input Panel Question... Chris/All - when you initiate Input Panel do you see the set of 'buttons' on the right that let you enter a backspace, tab, del, enter, etc? Then when you start inking in the panel, does that block of 'buttons' disappear and get replaced with an insert button below where the buttons were? I'm just trying to find out how the application normally works. Thanks, JonThe "Chris H" wrote: > It should work that way, especially on Windows XP SP2 at the Tablet PC > Edition 2005. | Re: Input Panel Question... Hi Chris - ok, thanks for the information. I was confused about how the application was supposed to 'look' and thought there was something wrong. | Re: Input Panel Question... Chris - (sorry to be a pain). When you are using gestures, must they be on a 'fresh line'? I mean, can I write some ink text and then use the "Enter" gesture, or must I have a fresh line to use a gesture like that? I seem to be able to do the Enter at the beginning of a line, but not in the middle of a line of ink... | Re: Input Panel Question... That's normal. The gesture recognizer is only active when there is no ink already on the input panel. This is to minimize the possibility of false positives which would be really annoying if you were in the middle of writing a sentence and the input panel suddenly insert all your ink and then threw a carriage return or space in there. As you get more and more proficient with the pen you will find the Insert + Tap Enter combination is pretty quick and not much more effort than using the gesture. -- Josh Einstein (Tablet PC MVP) Einstein Technologies Tablet Enhancements for Outlook - Try it free: www.tabletoutlook.com "Valid8r" <Valid8r@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:AAA96B7D-6C55-4836-BD5C-7D5709A73267@microsoft.com... > Chris - (sorry to be a pain). | Re: Input Panel Question... Josh - thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm still experimenting, but something still doesn't make sense to me. When I open Input Panel I can enter only one line of text (I can't see/figure out how to enter more than one line) and then I must hit the Insert button in order to get to the Enter/Tab/Del buttons. Is that right? I can't imagine that is how people use the Input Panel as it really precludes the use of it for anythin other than a short line of text or by short lines of text each of which is followed by an Enter button. What am I missing? Sorry to be so dense. Thanks, Jon "Josh Einstein" wrote: > That's normal. The gesture recognizer is only active when there is no ink > already on the input panel. | Re: Input Panel Question... On Vista, (unfortunately I don't have a tablet with XP at the moment) there is an option to move a slider to say how close to the end of the line you must be before the second lind pops up. The other thing to keep in mind is that if the TIP is docked, you will not get additional lines at all. Only when you've used the in-place floating TIP icon and have the input panel floating will it expand to give you more lines. And yes, those buttons are supposed to go away after you start writing. They make more room for ink and are rarely used while in the middle of writing a line. -- Josh Einstein (Tablet PC MVP) Einstein Technologies Tablet Enhancements for Outlook - Try it free: www.tabletoutlook.com "Valid8r" <Valid8r@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:95111F1C-BEBE-445A-8801-A22565D386C9@microsoft.com... > Josh - thanks for taking the time to reply.
