M200 booting from CD

I understand that the Tosh M200 can boot from USB 2 CD-ROMs. Does this have
to be the Tosh Cd unit or can it be any USB device?
Thanks
/Steve

Re: M200 booting from CD

I know it will work with the Toshiba DVD/CD+RW USB drive but not sure about
others. I think it is a hit or miss.

Yep, much like the 3500, it can boot from a couple third party units,
but not all. My Storix drive, for example, doesn't work, but the one
I got with the Toshiba does. On the 3500 there was success with a
couple versions of Lite-On and Sony drives - I haven't heard anyone
yet verify them on the M200, but if any will work, it will likely be
ones that worked on the 3500, since I doubt Toshiba would've deviated
that much from their boot process.

Many drives don't work. In addition to Toshiba's own drive, the Sony 510-UL external DVD writer works.

Re: M200 booting from CD

Any external USB Optical device that supports the Mass Storage Device
specification should boot.

I've tried with
- External Sony DVD writer
- BTC DVD/CDRW Combo drive
- A LiteOn Combo drive contained within a Sarotech external USB case.

Not necessarily the case - I have a couple notebooks I can boot with
my Storix USB 2.0 CDRW/DVD drive, but not the Toshiba.

They've been massively irritating this way.... The 3500 I have is the
same way.

Thanks for that confirmation. I was looking at picking up something
more than just my CDRW/DVD - would be nice to burn DVD's as well with
the tablet rather than always having to xfer things to one of my other
ocmputers... Perfect timing!

Have a look at http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...TOPIC_ID=10667
Towards the end you'll see a list of supported/unsupported drives that work
(as bootable) with the M200. The Sony MPD AP20U works and seems to be
popular; it also has rebates in the US (USD 225) and I also saw this drive
in the Media Markt in Cologne for EUR 225.- last weekend...

Thanks for that link! I spend time at the buzz, but I really need to
spend more! Also have to start including it in more of my searches...

Grrrr.... Just too many places to keep track of!
