Can you upgrade to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition?

If we've developed an XP image (OS + Common Applications/Tools) which runs on our desktops & notebooks, could we then load this image on a Tablet and then apply some kind of upgrade to the XP Tablet PC edition which would enable the necessary features for the tablet etc.?

any thoughts on this possibility?

Derek, the best thing to do would be to create a Tablet PC image with
everything you need and use that for deployment to Tablets.

Doubt it. You would need to load the Tablet PC edition in its entirety.

I'm not sure I understand...are you copying an image file or image executable to the tablet? [I thought anything that runs on XP will also run on XPtablet...] :S

Re: Can you upgrade to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition?--anything that runs on XP also runs on XPtablet?

The problem with "developing" an image is each Tablet PC has proprietary
drivers for their individual screens and button setups. The best "image"
would be to use a third-party program (Ghost, DriveImage, etc.) and store
that on a separate partition. It wouldn't take but minutes to bring the
Tablet back to a valid image with the proper drivers, etc., installed.

But, I admit I'm a bit confused by what is being attempted, or even why.

Hi Chris. How do you define "Image" or "Developing an Image"? Do you mean
a .jpg image or a .exe image?

Re: Developing/Executing an Image? -- What runs on XP will run on XPtablet?

A copy of the existing hard drive partition, Derek. If third-party programs
like BootIT NG, Ghost or DriveImage are used, you're presented with a total
"image" of the file which can then replace a botched setup. It basically
copies the current install, and allows the user to replace a bad one with
the known-good one.

I'm not talking about "developing" or creating anything, since I don't
understand the original purpose of the question as I stated before. The
third-party programs allow users to preserve a good install, and there is
nothing "added" or created.

Chris, Ahhh, yes, now I understand what you were saying--a HD Image...

[you did say DriveImage and Ghost; but I didn't make the connection...maybe
if you had said PowerQuest DriveImage7 or Symantec DriveImage... :) ...

Re: Can you upgrade to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition?--anything that runs on XP also runs on XPtablet?

To add to the confusion, there's two Dereks! (I'm the one who posted the original question)

At any rate, yes I was refering to a hard drive ghost image which we've developed for XP which, as we've learned from previous images ('95, NT, 2000), is very time consuming to develop and maintain let alone the fact that we now appear to have to introduce yet another XP image just for the Tablet users......disappointing.

Tablet PCs (and Media Center Edition computers) are different Derek, because
they're running "supersets" for the specific capabilities when the hardware
is present.

Its not really a matter of the hardware, you can install the OS on any
machine. When the correct key is entered in setup it deploys the
correct cab file from the second cd.
