TOSHIBA M205 Screen problem

My 4 month old M205 screen shattered under the presure of
my thumb as I was closing it. As if there was a void
between the screen & the protective glass.
Anyway Toshiba does not cover this & they estimate the
cost of a new screen to be $400-$700.00 ouch.
Has anyone had this same problem? the screen still
works. Can the protective glass be replaced without
removing the screen?
Any advise greatly appreciated.

Re: TOSHIBA M205 Screen problem

Beside the cost quoted from Toshiba, what do they recommend about replacing
the glass. They're the manufacturer, and would have the specifics of
replacement of the single part. Perhaps if you asked the issue be elevated
to a supervisor you might get a better response than the costly one?

Re: TOSHIBA M205 Screen problem

The glass is part of the LCD itself and cannot just be replaced
unfortunately. LCDs work by putting a liquid between two plates of
glass, and while it may look like your screen is fine it most likely
just didn't break far enough in to made the liquid start draining out.
I've opened my M200 before and that piece of glass is most definetely
attached to the screen itself like any other lcd.

TOSHIBA M205 Screen problem

oh my God, I'm so sorry to hear about that. My m205 is
only 1.5 months old. Although I haven't had any problems
such as yours, I'm so glad I decided to purchase an
extended warranty on it from the store I bought it at.

I have had no indication at all on my 205 of such a
defect.

Re: TOSHIBA M205 Screen problem

Well under normal circumstances one doesn't dog a
product/manufacturer like that unless he/she has good
reason like some bad experiences with their products. Oh
yea, there maybe another reason, :) immaturity :)
not sure how old ya are.

Well enough outta me :) Sorry if I offended ya.

TOSHIBA M205 Screen problem

Here's some information that might help other M200
owners. After numerous calls to tochiba technicians &
parts service I got conflicting information about the
replacement of the screen protective glass. Initialy I
was told by two diferent Tochiba tech centers that the
screen will have to be replaced.
After searching around I found that the cover wich is
called a MASK PART #P000388420 can be removed by
unscrewing 4 screws under those white rubber plugs
located near th on off etc. buttons & 2 additional screws
which are concealed by triangular stickers @ the bottom
of the screen. Once these screws come off the silver
frame can be lifted along with the hard plastic screen
protector.
The cost of the mask is $140.00 through

I included the above contact for Paula Enis because she
was the only one who toock the time to determine what
part I realy needed.

I hope this helps.
