task bar not showing open apps/folders

On my task bar; the "open apps" or "folders open" no
longer appear on the bar. Alt tab does show them as
running applications.

The only possible trigger appears to be when I activate
the "language bar". After activating/deactivating, this
started to happen. [or soon afterwards]

Had same problem last month, had to blow away the registry
that contains the ie task bar

office 2003 pro.

Re: task bar not showing open apps/folders

nope, not locked, opened bar all the way and
removed "quick launch bar". I think I should
remove "language bar" option that's part of office 2k3.

Re: task bar not showing open apps/folders

Is it working now? I can run the language bar and quick launch, and mine
shows open programs there, too. If you're still having problems, try this:

- Go to Start/Run and type in "sfc" without the quotes. This invokes the
System File Checker (further details are in Help and Support) to verify the
validity of system files and replace any corrupt or damaged ones.
- Most likely, SFC will ask for CD1 of Windows XP, but when it does, point
it to the I386 folder on the hard drive - C:\WINDOWS\I386 - where most OEM's
store the CAB files and installation information.

Try 'sfc /scannow'.

RE: task bar not showing open apps/folders

I am running WindowsXP Tablet Ed and I have encountered this same problem. I tried the 'sfc/scannow' cmd and it did not work. I had originally thought this might be a problem with this version but after finding out this same problem exists with Win2000, I think we need a fix.
Any ideas, it is a pain to have to search for you running programs without them appearing on the taskbar.
Thanks,
Poot

Re: task bar not showing open apps/folders

You may need to open the Command Prompt and run sfc /scannow from there.
