| Standby stopped working Hi I have a Compaq TC1000. I have the power options set to go to standby, then hibernate. Recently, it has stopped working i.e. it does not go to standby (or hibernate) by "itself". Last week it started working again (all by itself) but it has stopped working again. Does *not* conincide with new software being loaded etc. All critical 'Windows Updates' are loaded/current. I have tried changing the times, to see if I can "jolt" it back to life, and also tried bringing up Task Manager and selecting 'Stand By' in case it had forgotten how to ;-) It still doesn't go to Stand By by itself. Any thoughts? Thanks, Mark ... |

I have the opposite problem on my Acer C300 which I now believe is related to the switch that senses when I close or flip my screen but that is easily tracked to hardware. Your problem seems more related to software. Unless... Perhaps... Something may also have modified or corrupted your BIOS such that the power management features don't respond to commands from Windows any more. Try resetting the BIOS to the defaults. Also try updating your BIOS even if the version you have is already the latest version. As long as you use the correct file you can't hurt anything by trying. |

The BIOS seems to be very limited in its configuration options, not mentioning anything about power setting, however I have reset to the default settings. The BIOS is at the latest release, however I will "reinistall" (so to say) and see if that makes any difference. I'll keep you informed! |
