| Re: suggestions for tablet pc Excellent choices in programs. Depending on where you're going to school, you may also want to check into GoBinder from Agilix: http://www.gobinder.com/index.html It works with Blackboard, used by many colleges for transmitting information between professors and students. -- Chris H. The computer opens up the jacket-pocket size market, and sounds like it could be really revolutionary, both for the computer business and for the clothing business. |

I may have jumped to conclusions by assuming that a Windows XP computer with digital pen input uses XP Tablet PC Edition, but it would be a big mistake if it did not. |

I sent an e-mail to OQO's contact address to ask if they use regular XP or Tablet XP. If I don't get an answer I will figure they are not coming out with a computer with XP Tablet anytime soon. |

I did look at the oqo at one point, although very interesting, I find more annoying than difficult taking notes on such a small screen. I'm already doing that with a PocketPC. thanx a bunch!! btw: i'll keep you all posted on which one i decide on :-D --rob |

I heard from OQO but I can't figure out what their answer means. When asked "whether the OQO Ultra Personal Computer will use regular Windows XP or Windows XP Tablet PC edition" they responded "The OQO uPC is a real computer and is capable of using normal Windows XP". I asked for a clarification. |

| Re: suggestions for tablet pc "Capable" means that's not what is running on it. If they were using the Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP Pro, they'd say so. 8-) -- Chris H. So far, everything I hear suggests it is regular XP, not Tablet XP. |

| Re: suggestions for tablet pc After the first ambiguous answer from OQO about the Operating System for their tiny OQO tablet computer, I asked as directly as I could: "But does it come with Windows XP Tablet Edition or is that not a possibility?" I got a response today: "Please explain why you would want to use the Tablet Edition over XP Professional." So it sounds like OQO does not offer XP Tablet. However, another possibility is that the messages are being answered by an Artificial Intelligence program that hasn't quite figured out what I am trying to ask. In my reply I tried my best to answer OQO's question about Tablet XP, and they may indeed have some cool proprietary technology, but betting that their version #3 will beat Microsoft's version #3 would seem more plausible if they were willing to acknowledge that they were going head to head against a very experienced company that has shipped many products before, while they haven't yet shipped product #1. It is too bad. The OQO computer seems like excellent hardware design. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot with a big software gamble? |

| Re: suggestions for tablet pc Mickey, since the Tablet PCs have to meet stringent hardware specs, it might be that OQO doesn't meet those specs with their tablet. Pen tablets have been around a long time and this looks like another in the line. Not everyone needs a Tablet PC nor can everyone afford one. Other tablets fill a void for a lot of folks who may not need or want a Tablet PC. Rite Pen is an excellent handwriting program, so this may be a good option for those who want to try one or stay within a budget. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Windows MVP / Tablet PC http://thetabletpc.net Expert Zone - http://microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/default.asp "Mickey Segal" <ignored@example.com> wrote in message news:#ArkCl$KEHA.3808@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > After the first ambiguous answer from OQO about the Operating System for > their tiny OQO tablet computer, I asked as directly as I could: "But does it > come with Windows XP Tablet Edition or is that not a possibility?" > > I got a response today: "Please explain why you would want to use the Tablet > Edition over XP Professional." > > So it sounds like OQO does not offer XP Tablet. Tablets r NOT a better KIND of computer" it seems that OQO is arguing that the ritePen (http://www.penandinternet.com/) is a better approach than building pen support into the operating system. We have seen such battles before; OQO may be the Apple of the pen computing world. However, we should not become so trapped by history that we make the opposite mistakes. Voting with our dollars, we will probably buy a mainstream XP Tablet device such as the Electrovaya Scribbler. But if OQO wants to lend me one of their pocket-size XP ritePen devices for a medical conference at which I've been asked to lead a session I bet they would sell a lot of computers due to the size of the hardware. |

I don't see the answer on the Web site, which lists under specifications only: 800 x 480 W-VGA 5" transflective display (indoor / outdoor readable) As a result, I don't know if their choice of operating system is constrained by their hardware choices. |
