| Handwriting "Insert" action won't work in Word & Publisher 2003 Got a new Tablet PC and have been playing with the handwriting recognition functions. Strangely, using either the insert button or the auto-insert won't insert text into either Word 2003 or Publisher 2003. It'll work in the other office apps, or other non MS apps like Firefox, etc. I've tired going through all the MS updates, etc. Seen a couple posts from a few years ago about problems with the Insert action in Office, but the issues don't seem exactly the same or were never completely answer. Kind of run out of ideas of things to try. Interestingly, the on screen keyboard part of the recognition applet will work and insert characters into Word & Publisher, but the individual character and full handwriting recognition parts of it are the parts that have the issue. |

Forgot to mention, this is on XP Tablet Edition 2005 (SP2 with all current updates). |

| Re: Handwriting "Insert" action won't work in Word & Publisher 2003 check the options button on the input panel... it can be turned on and off and postioned left or right... there have been some reports of the end being off screen which might cause this. Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

I should also add to the description of the problem that the handwriting recognition is actually recognizing the letters/words being written (shows the recognized words under the line as you write, etc). It's just that when you click the insert button it clears the recognition line and does absolutely nothing in Word or Publisher. |

| Re: Handwriting "Insert" action won't work in Word & Publisher 2003 Actually I hesitate to even recommend this (though I doubt it could hurt) because I'm really baffled as to why it'd be necessary. But I've noticed alot of messages in this group lately that reported this problem and the solution was to open a command prompt (if you're using Vista, run it as an administrator) and type: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\ole32.dll -- Josh Einstein (Tablet PC MVP) Einstein Technologies Tablet Enhancements for Outlook - Try it free: www.tabletoutlook.com "GuyGG" <guygg@3gcs.com> wrote in message news:1186436796.093999.304770@w3g2000hsg.googlegro ups.com... > On Aug 6, 10:01 am, "Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev]" > <BevNoSpamBevHoward.com> wrote: >> check the options button on the input panel... it can be turned on and >> off and postioned left or right... there have been some reports of the >> end being off screen which might cause this. >> >> Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] > > Tried changing those settings, which didn't make a difference. | RE: Handwriting "Insert" action won't work in Word & Publisher 2003 I had the same problem with a Gateway Tablet. Gateway support suggested going in and removing the Windows XP Hotfix KB911071 and it worked. To remove that update go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, check the box at the top that says Show Updates, scroll down until you see Hotfix KB911071 and remove it.
