New XP Tablet stopped working after 60 days, seems to be a temporary TCAL expiration. Any ideas would be helpful Licensing for terminal server would be something totally separate from the licensing for tablet PC, but i'm not sure what you're really asking. Did your ability to TS into a windows 2000 server stop working, or did the tablet itself stop working? If the tablet no longer works, then it seems more likely that it was never activated, though I don't recall off hand what the "grace" period was for activating Windows XP. Give a few more details, and someone will be able to give you more concrete answers. John |

TCALs normally have to be purchased separately (at an outrageously high price)to allow your PC, or unix client, or thin client, or any kind of oddball client from some other weird OS to log onto Windows 2000 Server. However, to boost Window XP sales, they originally included a builtin TCAL free of charge into each XP Professional OS sold. You know, as a freebe. Then interesting thing is that they stopped that for Win 2003 Server, and now all have to pay the MS $ machine for the new 2003 server. But the user's question was for the Win 2000 Server ! and XP Pro still has the built in for that OS. I knew about the RDP on XP, but had never heard anything about it "officially" having a built in license for legal connection to a terminal server. Thanks for the info! John |
