Can we just sort out some confusion here?
You seem to be repeatedly stating that in order for the Tablet PC
Edition to correctly function it must have all these hardware elements.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/t...per/hdwreq.asp

This is not technically correct. These requirements listed are ones that
a prospective OEM design must conform to for it to be licensed to ship
with an OEM copy of Tablet PC edition, that is not the same as the
hardware requirements for the software to function. These requirements
are those that must be met for an optimum "user experience" while using
a tablet. Microsoft will not let a manufacturer call their product a
Tablet PC unless it meets these requirements.

Technically a Tablet PC need be no different from a standard desktop.
Just installing the Tablet PC edition disc with a valid product key and
having a digitizer with a supported driver is enough for all tablet PC
functionality to work. For development purposes there is no difference
in functionality between a desktop with an external digitizer and the
MSDN Tablet PC Edition installed and an actual OEM Tablet PC. A desktop
need not be legacy free, nor have a CTRL-ALT-Delete button, nor a
switchable viewing state in order to run the full set of tablet
functionality.

XP Pro + Tablet PC SDK provides an intermediate level of support. It
gives you access to pen input from a supported digitizer and much of the
Tablet API without including the Tablet specific applications or
handwriting recognition engines. This is where the idea of emulating the
ink process must be coming from.

Re: Can Win xp Tablet pc edition install to a regular desktop pc

Question:
"#1.Can Win xp Tablet PC Edition be install to a regular desktop pc?
#2.Is the function in the Win xp Tablet PC Edition compatible with other
pen base input device like Wacom digitizer or even Pen-power input
equipment."

Answer:
"1 - You can, but the Tablet portions won't install because they're
looking for the hardware elements only available on the OEM Tablet PCs
2 - Using a third-party device like a writing pad will only emulate the
Ink process. You need to digital screens on a Tablet PC for the proper
recognition software functionality."

Given the two conditions, 1) An install of MSDN Tablet PC edition on a
desktop PC, and 2) The presence of a Wacom digitizer + driver, you do in
fact get full tablet PC and handwriting recognition functionality.

There is no magic special hardware within an OEM tablet that enables any
additional functionality.
