How to remove on-screen keyboard from logon screen?

The Wacom tablet driver automatically enables the Tablet PC features, which I
do not use. I have a regular laptop with a keyboard, not a Tablet PC.

With these features enabled an on-screen keyboard is displayed on the login
page. How do I remove the on-screen keyboard from the logon prompt?

One solution is to remove the Tablet PC features from "Turn On or Off
Windows Features" in the Control Panel but this also removes the Snipping
Tool for some reason, which I'd like to keep.

So my question is, how can I still enjoy the use of the Snipping Tool but
get rid of that annoying on screen keyboard at login.

Re: How to remove on-screen keyboard from logon screen?

I looked all over the web for an answer to this and could find little to nothing. I'm using XP Tablet edition and wanted to permanently remove the on screen keyboard as it constantly popped up at inopportune times. There are some reg hacks out there, but mostly they're for Windows Mobile and don't seem to work for XP Tablet.

I take no responsibility if you do this, but what I finally did was to find and rename the KeyboardSurrogate.exe. In my case this was located in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft\Ink folder. This is a laptop with a full keyboard and we do not want or use the virtual keyboard functions. This completely removes the on screen keyboard. If you're worried about renaming the exe, you can always copy it off somewhere else or to a USB key so you could restore it if needed.

This eliminated a huge annoyance for me and I hope it helps someone else.

Sorry for responding to this late but the other option is to unregister
LoginKey.dll I believe which you can do with regsvr32 /u LoginKey.dll.

I don't find loginkey.dll anywhere on the hard drive.
Could it be named something else in Vista?

Re: How to remove on-screen keyboard from logon screen?

I don't know how to disable it in Vista but because the tablet functionality
is a core part of the OS in Vista it is probably much different.

Personally I've never had a reason to disable it so I can't say I've
explored it too deeply.

Disable Login keyboard... Remove Human Interface Device(IDEACOM)

As a previous posts suggests... to get rid of the 'login screen keyboard' I had to go to Device Manager and remove a device in the 'Human Interface Device' (HID) section. The device was an IDEACOM device (and I clicked the checkbox for 'Remove drivers...' too). I had gotten it installed due to an 'optional' Windows Update.

type regedit in start/run
and remove this entry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\loginkey

delete the dll
to get rid of keyboardsurrogate at startup

Are you replying to an old thread?
I can nit see what you are referring to.

I assume that you are asking about the *Windows* Login (not the PowerOn
password set in the BIOS).
Right?

IMO the suggestion made by "sangwira" means real overkill.

Ever since I got my my tc1100 I have been working with the "autologon"
feature for the Windows logon.
I have a PowerOn-password set in the BIOS which comes up immediately
when switching the machine on (after hibernation too). And then the
system runs through until Windows is through with initializing
everything.

In Vista the "autologon" can be set in the user administration (pls ask
for details if needed).
Under XP one can use the fine PowerToy "TweakUI"[1] for enabling
autologon.
