| TC1000 tablet buttons not working Hello. I've had to rebuild my TC1000 from a XP Pro CD because when I purchased it, it didn't come with recovery CDs. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to retrieve a copy of XP Tablet Ed., but it's my understanding there is really no such a thing; XP Tablet is specially built by the mfr's to suit their machines (correct me if I'm wrong on this...). So with that said, my dilemma: I basically have all I need back on the TC1000, minus all the little apps included in the "tablet edition" such as journal and the silly Inkball game (even though it's pretty fun for a while!); however, I can't get the buttons to work!!!! :(( One more thing: when I install the video driverr from the HP site, the image turns upside down and the mouse works on "inverted axis"!!!! I did work around that though: I just use the M$ driver, but loose the "rotate" capability of the screen. I'm really more concern about the jog dial and the other customizable buttons by it (esc, tab, Q and email client). Please I need help...I've been working on this for the past 4 days (going on 5 now...). Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks. Tony. |

| Re: TC1000 tablet buttons not working Microsoft does have a specific Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. It's available only with Tablet PCs. We've seen your scenario many times in the past from people purchasing from a secondary market. The image may have been built to OEM's specifications, but the underlying operating system is Microsoft's. You can contact the manufacturer's support line to see if they'll send you an additional copy of the OS, but they're really under no obligation to do so, although most will send for either shipping costs, or costs of the replacement disks plus shipping. It's worth asking about. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Forums - http://forums.mobilepcworld.net Microsoft Windows MVP- Tablet PC <DawofWar2005******.com> wrote in message news:1180404533.946998.38640@q75g2000hsh.googlegro ups.com... > Hello. > I've had to rebuild my TC1000 from a XP Pro CD because when I > purchased it, it didn't come with recovery CDs. | Re: TC1000 tablet buttons not working Thanks for your reply Terry. Well, what about this scenario: let's say I got my hands on a copy of Tablet Edition, and was able to install it on a desktop using a 3.5" HD with an adapter, but then when I place the HD in my TC1000 it won't boot at all. Keep in mind that the BIOS on the TC1000 see the drive just fine. Also, using the same "hypothetical" install discs and trying directly on the TC1000 (via an external USB2.0 drive which is also recognized by BIOS) windows installer crashes right after copying files (it crashes right after the installer says "starting windows") I then get a "blue screen of death" with the usual message: windows has stopped to prevent damage blah blah blah...please check for disk errors blah blah blah... I don't think it's the drive though (the same drive works fine on other PCs). I'll try Compaq and see what they say about the CDs. Again, thanks for your time. v/r Tony. | Re: TC1000 tablet buttons not working Can the TC 1000 run Vista? If so, you could do a clean install of a version of Vista that supports Tablets. A description of doing this with a TC 1100 is at http://mobilepcwiki.com/mpc/index.ph...allation_Notes, but the TC 1000 may be an older model. |

| Re: TC1000 tablet buttons not working Mickey, I'm actually trying that right now; however, I'm don't think it's going to run. Rmember, the TC1000 only has 16MB of shared video RAM (that is already low for XP!) Well I guess my real dilemma is: why I can get the pen to work, but not the function buttons under XP Pro SP2!?! They are under Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices on the HP support site for the TC1000. As I understand, the Wacom pen drivers are common to all tablets, and so included in XP (and Vista), but the buttons are a tablet specific issue and need a device driver. -- Peter R Cook |

All the other buttons, nada... > A question and a suggestion. Do the buttons appear on the button tab in the Tablet and Pen Setting applet? If not then potentially the driver is not installing correctly. Try removing and re-installing. If the buttons are there, but not working , and if you feel comfortable, it is possible ( at least on my Tablet) to poke about in the registry and then set up the keys individually. I borrowed this idea from another post - a while ago, so I can't credit it properly. It seems to be generally applicable to all Tablets. * Start regedit (launch a command prompt and type regedit) * Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\TabletPC\TabletButtons\nn nn runs from 0 to 20 (it does on my machine a Tatung but see below) Under each button there will be a key NoUI, most buttons will have the value set to 1 to prevent customisation * Change the value of NoUI from 1 to 0 This will enable you to reprogram the keys individually from the Tablet and Pen Applet. It will also allow you to see what actions they are currently programmed for (if any). If these registry entries are not there, then I suggest the driver is not installing properly. I think it should appear as a device under Human Interface Devices in Device manager. I don't have a HP tablet, but a quick look at cpqbttn.inf in sp21346.exe (the button driver) from HP suggests that the driver that needs to be installed is CPQBttn.sys, and that you should have nn from 0-12 The basic logic seems to be that the TabletButtons\nn keys link the driver to a set of actions that are defined in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\TabletPC\ButtonActions, and the actual actions are driven by tabbtn.dll (this is a Microsoft provided dll, so I presume it is common to all tablets) and should therefore be in your system. As a last resort I would extract all the files from sp21346.exe and use the Install option from explorer to install cpqbtn.inf rather than using the HP installer. Hope this helps. | Re: TC1000 tablet buttons not working That would depend on the type of copy you might (or might not) have. The OEMs use image copies of the OS along with any drivers and additional programs they want to install. A bios check can be included as can a check for specific hardware. Another possibility is that only an OEM disk or image can be used with a specific key. You also can't use a copy from MSDN with an OEM key (or vice versa). You might want to see if there's a bios update for your computer as well. Depending on the size of the hard drive, it may not be fully recognized, although that seems not to be the case as you say the computer sees it. Also, many of the very early Tablets required specific CD/DVD drives for installation. Have you installed specific drivers for the devices during the installation? -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Forums - http://forums.mobilepcworld.net Microsoft Windows MVP- Tablet PC <DawofWar2005******.com> wrote in message news:1180450344.967889.212890@p77g2000hsh.googlegr oups.com... > Thanks for your reply Terry. > Well, what about this scenario: let's say I got my hands on a copy of > Tablet Edition, and was able to install it on a desktop using a 3.5" > HD with an adapter, but then when I place the HD in my TC1000 it won't > boot at all. The Windows installer will have installed drivers for the desktop's motherboard, graphics and disk controllers. Swapping the drive to the tablet means that most of the drivers in the boot image will be the wrong ones. >Also, using the same "hypothetical" install discs and >trying directly on the TC1000 (via an external USB2.0 drive which is >also recognized by BIOS) windows installer crashes right after copying >files (it crashes right after the installer says "starting windows") I >then get a "blue screen of death" with the usual message: windows has >stopped to prevent damage blah blah blah...please check for disk >errors blah blah blah... >I don't think it's the drive though (the same drive works fine on >other PCs). This is a similar problem. I am not sure what you mean by installing via an external USB2.0 drive. If you are copying the install CD onto the USB2.0 drive, then doing the install to the Tablet's hard drive, it is likely that the windows installer isn't loading the drivers for the USB external drive, and consequently can't see the rest of the install files. If however you are trying to install XP to the USB2.0 external drive, then again the windows installer is not loading appropriate drivers for the USB drive as the system disk. >I'll try Compaq and see what they say about the CDs. Again, thanks for >your time. >v/r >Tony. I suggest that what you need to do given that you have a copy of XP-Pro running on the tablet, is to A) make an image of the existing Tablet Drive so that you can get back to it if B fails. B) Install XP Tablet edition from your hypothetical install kit as an upgrade to the existing XP-Pro installation. I suspect this will only work if the activation key you have is XP Tablet edition. -- Peter R Cook |
