| Toshiba M7 or Portege M400 - with vista. Pros and Cons I'm trying to understand the differences between these two machines and how they work with vista. M7: I've found a number of blogs that indicate people have had issues getting vista on the M7, and even that the drivers are no longer available. I'll be purchasing a new machine. Will it come with Vista? Will I have any issues with Vista if I don' thave to install it? I believe that the M7 and the M400 differ in size (and hence weight). Are they both similiar in battery life? I assume that they both have the off center keyboard (which drives me nuts on my current Toshiba). Thanks for your help! |

| Re: Toshiba M7 or Portege M400 - with vista. Pros and Cons The M7 has a 14" screen while hte M400 has a 12.1" screen. The M7 is definitely quite a bit heavier. If a Tablet that you purchase comes with Windows Vista compared to upgrading to it later, you're likely to have less issues. Many of the upgrade issues come from drivers. Having Windows Vista pre-installed will get past this. Toshiba also has another model - the R400 if you want to stay with Toshiba. There are several other Tablets out there that might suit you if you don't like the Toshiba keyboard. You can see reviews on many models by doing searches. I have a comparison chart on my Web site (in my signature) for side-by-side comparisons of different models. Gateway has the new Thin and Light model. It now uses Wacom technology and has a built-in optical drive on a 12.1" model. The cost is reasonable as well. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Forums - http://forums.mobilepcworld.net Microsoft Windows MVP- Tablet PC "Linda" <Linda@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:829C2BD5-BEEA-4925-9F7D-402285A64102@microsoft.com... > I'm trying to understand the differences between these two machines and > how > they work with vista. > > M7: I've found a number of blogs that indicate people have had issues > getting vista on the M7, and even that the drivers are no longer > available. > I'll be purchasing a new machine. | Re: Toshiba M7 or Portege M400 - with vista. Pros and Cons The X61 doesn't have a built-in optical drive, which is one reason the weight is less. There is a very nice (small) dock that can be moved with the Tablet for those times when you know a CD/DVD drive will be necessary. With the larger capacity thumb drives/cards now available, I'm finding I use a DVD drive much less when away from my desk. There is an SD card reader which I use all the time, both for ReadyBoost and for moving photos from the camera. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Featured Community http://thetabletpc.net Forums - http://forums.mobilepcworld.net Microsoft Windows MVP- Tablet PC "Steven Toney" <toneys@ibm.net> wrote in message news:eiSPuWAsHHA.4800@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Terri > > Does you Lenovo X61 have the optical drive built in or is it a separate > piece.. > > I have used he IBM T series notebooks for years and have always like them > > I recently gave my old Thinkpad to my niece and will want to get a tablet > as a replacement in a few months > > I believe I want a convertible with built in optical and card reader - SD > and CF at least -- would like it have a decent docking station available > > > > "terri" <terri@no.mvps.spam.org> wrote in message > news:OKMsQvVmHHA.4772@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> The M7 has a 14" screen while hte M400 has a 12.1" screen.
