| Text Insertion Button Missing in Journal Compaq TC1000 with all updates downloaded. Problem related to MS Journal only. Hand Writing Recognition enabled. Language selected (US English). Text Button Missing in Journal. When attempting to input written text for handwriting recognition, I can't specifiy an insertion point in MS Journal. When inputing into the handwriting recognition box, the input appears to be going somewhere but without being able to select an insertion point I don't know where it's going. If I remember correctly, when using a demo modle of the TC1000 there was a "Text Button" on one of the tool bars. Jumping from handwriting, to handwriting recognition, to highlighter, to Eraser was siply a matter of seleting the appropriate tool bar button (Pen or Text, etc.). Handwriting Recognition works correctly in all other programs I've attepted to us it. (Text Insertion Point is selectable while browsing the intenet, in Franklin Covey software, etc.) Any help would be appreciated, |

| RE: MS Journal Settings Info Additional MS Journal Settings Info: Tools > Options > Other > Enable Handwriting recognition (selected) "English US" Language selected. Actions > Convert Handwriting To Text (is gray, un-selectable) “Change Shape To? is the only command in black for selection. This appears to be where my problem is? (Actions command) I can't select the needed "gray" colored commands. I don't want to install the 250MB language pack, as I do not believe it's needed. The demo unit that I worked on only had the basic (2) languages installed (English US and UK) and Windows Journal was converting handwriting to text with an insertion point Tool Bar Button. Since my last post, I've installed Office-2000 Pro and Handwriting Recognition is working in MS-WORD, etc. This problem appears to be related to MS-Journal, and most likely it's a user problem (me)? Hopefully, someone can help me to scratch my head in the proper location and get this working. |

Are you writing directly into Journal, or attempting to use the (unnecessary) Tablet Input Panel to do so? >When inputing into the handwriting recognition box, the input appears to be >going somewhere but without being able to select an insertion point I don't >know where it's going. There are no Text-related toolbar buttons in Journal. Yo umay have seen another application - maybe Corel Grafigo? |

| Re: Text Insertion Button Missing in Journal I'm attempting to use Handwriting Recognition through the use of the Tablet Input Panel. So that handwriting is converted to Text, and and Pen Input (drawing notes, etc.) stay as Ink. While there may not be any "Text-related toolbar buttons in Journal", I had a lady from Compaq Tech Support on the phone last night (b-4 being disconnected for about the 9th time) who said that she was able to enter handwritten letters, etc. into the Tablet Input Panel and it was converting to Text for her in Windows Journal. (I understand about Text Boxes, and converting already entered Ink to Text.) She said she was writing in the TIP and it was converting for her. For the time being, I'm using the TIP with WORD for my meeting note taking. Kind of a pain in the a_ _ when it comes to entering diagrams that would be much easier in Journal. Cutting and pasting from Journal into an open WORD.doc takes too much time to be effective. |

| Re: Ink Canvas with WORD.doc's You can do that already in Word 2003 with the Ink Drawing and Writing components native to the application. But I haven't read the magazine article, so don't know specifically what they're saying. -- Chris H.
