| worlds first tablet pc roomba robot (tablet pc=brains, roomba=locomotion) using "off the shelf parts" i have constructed another pretty good mobile robot. a tablet pc is the brain and the roomba robot vac is the locomotion. currently working on sending the ir commands from the pc to the roomba and having the robot "do a tour" and post photos / video automatically to the roblog (my robot photo blog). pictures of the tablet pc roomba-bot: http://www.philliptorrone.com/roombatabletbot/ cheers, pt |

| Re: worlds first tablet pc roomba robot (tablet pc=brains, roomba=locomotion) it's used for a few things: *navigation- currently working on vnc'ing in, using the cam feed to control the ir port, which moves the roomba. *web cam- it posts to the textamerica "roblog". *other- one day it might move around on its own, but that's going to take awhile. cheers, pt >-----Original Message----- >Is the camera for navigation or just to take pictures? > >-- > >Gary A. | Re: worlds first tablet pc roomba robot (tablet pc=brains, roomba=locomotion) Vibrations from the roomba makes the roomba a bad choice for a robotic platform. do you have any other more practical robotic PC project? If not,I am looking for partners for a more practical version of PC robotic contraption. The idea is patented, and some detail of this project can be seen at http://funkycoldamoeba.blogspot.com/ "phillip m. torrone" <phillip@flashenabled.com> wrote in message news:<530b01c3ffce$6f20eb00$a101280a@phx.gbl>... > it's used for a few things: > *navigation- currently working on vnc'ing in, using the > cam feed to control the ir port, which moves the roomba. > *web cam- it posts to the textamerica "roblog". > *other- one day it might move around on its own, but > that's going to take awhile. > > cheers, > pt > > >-----Original Message----- > >Is the camera for navigation or just to take pictures? > > > >-- > > > >Gary A. | Re: worlds first tablet pc roomba robot (tablet pc=brains, roomba=locomotion) Yes, the ER1 is a flexible platform for a general purpose PC robot. Since this is a tablet pc thread, I do wish that some camera oem/odm can maker a camcorder attachement for tablet pc. With this attachement, a tablet pc can be a full featured camcorder. phillip@flashenabled.com (phillip m. torrone) wrote in message news:<6d64ff0c.0403032212.1b109614@posting.google. com>... > baracooda@nyc.rr.com (baracooda) wrote in message news:<a4778537.0403021335.176da86c@posting.google. com>... > > Vibrations from the roomba makes the roomba a bad choice for a robotic > > platform. > > not for my purposes, it's a low-cost mobility platform, works great > (you can take out the vac parts). > > > do you have any other more practical robotic PC project? > > hmm, what is your definition of practical? i am doing this for a few > reasons-- posting pictures to my "roblog" is one for example. > > > If not,I am looking for partners for a more practical version of PC > > robotic contraption. | Re: worlds first tablet pc roomba robot (tablet pc=brains, roomba=locomotion) It seems to me that your tablet+roomba is a some kinda automated picture taking machine. Do you believe there is a such market for device with similar or more effective capabilities? There is a such trend of putting camera on "computer" with mechanized computer. The concept is proven by the Mars Rover, but what on earth can we hope that it will do for us? phillip@flashenabled.com (phillip m. torrone) wrote in message news:<6d64ff0c.0403032212.1b109614@posting.google. com>... > baracooda@nyc.rr.com (baracooda) wrote in message news:<a4778537.0403021335.176da86c@posting.google. | RE: worlds first tablet pc roomba robot Since you have used your infrared port to control your roomba, I would like to know how you programmed the computer to communicate with the vacuum or to send messages it could understand. Is there software you buy? can you do it with little programming knowledge (C++)? The reason i ask is that i'm interested in getting my tablet pc to control my 200 cd-changer and possibly even home theater system. I have a web page with all of my cds and track listings and I would like to program the pages so taht when i click on a song, the cd changer will go to that disc and track number. Any ideas? |

| Re: worlds first tablet pc roomba robot (tablet pc=brains, roomba=locomotion) some product ideas do take some time to mature.] For example from the invention of pen/paper to the "invention" of tablet PC... From the invention of film camera/(wooden) tripod to the high resolution digital camera and a PC-based robotic mechanized tripod carrier... The advancement might not be appreciated or new but the trend towards sophistication is the same "phillip m. torrone" <phillip@flashenabled.com> wrote in message news:<a54601c406d6$8282e180$a301280a@phx.gbl>... > baracooda@nyc.rr.com (baracooda) wrote in message > > It seems to me that your tablet+roomba is a some kinda > automated > > picture taking machine.
