| Office 200 compatibility with Tablet PC OS My IS department denied my request to trial a Tablet PC, so I am going to take the leap and purchase one myself. I have prettty much settled on the Acer TavelMate C301XCi model (found one with 1.6G/1G Ram/60G HD/802.11b/g and Bluetooth for $2300!! @ CDW-G). However, I have some concerns: 1) I need the MS Office Suite, which will add another $400 bucks to the price. My company is still using the Office 2000 suite - will I be able to have our IS dept. load their older, licensed version onto my Tablet PC? Any known incompatibilities with the Tablet PC OS? 2) On a similiar note: the company may be upgrading to Office 2003 by mid-year. Any issues with loading this after purchase? I do not completely understand the whole OEM concept, so I am not sure if the Office software has to be installed at time of purchase. 3) If I MUST purchase the 2003 Office suite with the PC, will there be issues trying to sync Outlook 2003 with Outlook 2000? |

No, but you will get NO Tablet/ink-awareness. The Add-in Pack only supports Office XP, and Office 2003 has native awareness. > 2) On a similiar note: the company may be upgrading to Office 2003 by > mid-year. Office can be installed at any time. > 3) If I MUST purchase the 2003 Office suite with the PC, will there be > issues trying to sync Outlook 2003 with Outlook 2000? Probably some issues, but you should ask those questions on a Outlook newsgroup as the Tablet environment is not relevant to the issue. |

| Re: Office 200 compatibility with Tablet PC OS An important issue about he compatibility between Office 2003 and 2000 is that the latter cannot use the default .pst file of 2003; you have to use the older version, the one compatible with office 2000 and XP. The main limitations of the old format are that the folder size has a 2GB limit and it is in ANSI format while the 2003 one is, by default, in Unicode format.
