| Aero Glass 'turned off' by Nero 7.5.9 + Reboots Vista RTM I noticed that with Vista RTM as opposed to 5840 and prior builds that Aero Glass turns off under two circumstances, and the registry is already defaulted to the settings that have been used to force it and dvm is default on (turning it off and then on at the cmd prompt is part of the force sequence). I also notice that any install of Nero 7x (I haven't tried it with a Nero 6X install) or opening up and using any of Nero's components converts from Aero to Windows Standard white color scheme. Has anyone noticed this or does anyone have a remedy to keep from having to reset it every boot? CH |

I have Nero v7.5.9.0 installed and no such issues, nor have I heard of Nero causing such a problem from others. I've installed it normal configuration, custom, and the special "lite" package that Klaas Nekeman has provided for people who don't want all the bloated addins: http://www.updatepack.nl/ The Aero feature being turned off is usually related to Java compatibility. Google for that and you'll find lots of info. |

| Re: Aero Glass 'turned off' by Nero 7.5.9 + Reboots Vista RTM Bill-- Thanks for the helpful info. I meant to make clear that I thought Aero had been working normally, in that I didn't need to use the force aero regedits since the values were already there and it showed up on setup. But I have to go to display properties to reset "Aero color", and Nero turns it off for me. The link to the update "lite" package is interesting. I had been using the custom install to eliminate the many add-ins. LOL am I the only one that intuitively can't guess what the Nero add-ins would do unless I looked them all up? I appreciate the info. I usually choose not to install all the extra crap anyway. Are there some features that I don't get a choice about? Maybe Nero Scout? I'd probably use that lite installer, but I find Recode handy, while I don't want CoverDesigner or WaveEditor. Also, amongst the actual burning tools, ImageDrive is handy too, but still doesn't seem to work with Vista. > > The Aero feature being turned off is usually related to Java > compatibility. Google for that and you'll find lots of info. Yes, the latest Java update stopped ArchiCAD and Photoshop turning Aero off for me. ss. |

| RE: Aero Glass 'turned off' by Nero 7.5.9 + Reboots Vista RTM Chad: That used to be a problem with pre 7.5.9 Nero's. It went out with the new version. You should also be using Sun Java's 6.0 RC (a.k.a. 1.6.0) which is Vista friendly. Uninstall Java 5 (or 1.5) befor installing Java 6 (or 1.6). There is also 7.5.9.0A (don't know the changelog). You might try that one as well. Scout is just one of the obvious ones because you may see the icon in Explorer. There's about 150MB of extra crap that gets installed with a very minimal installation where only Burning Rom is selected from the full package, but dozens of other junk is slapped on the drive for the heck of it, none of it needed for basic CD/DVD burning. With a minimal install from the Lite package, you end up with about 50MB of files, Nero itself is a 34MB executable file. > I'd probably use that lite installer, but I find Recode handy, while > I don't want CoverDesigner or WaveEditor. With the Lite installer, you can still select what you want out of what's offered in the package. A full install from it is only about 60MB, about 1/6th the size of the original package. |

Ideally I would like Recode too. I guess I'll just stick with the official install package and just get those things I need, as this Lite package doesn't include Image Drive and Recode, and doesn't seem to offer any benefit from doing a custom install, as far as I can see from what you have said. ss. |

It saves you from installing about 150MB of stuff that you may not need, which can be critical for laptops or older machines that have smaller hard drives. If you want other features, then you have to install the original package and customize it, but it will still be a LOT bigger install than the Lite package. Personally, I use the full package because it has a few things I want and I have lots of drive space, but the option for a smaller package is there for people who don't have the "room to waste". |
