Yes,
I use hotmail; just can't use Outlook to get the free hotmail now.
But I get my e-mails fine.

Re: MSN (HOTMAIL)

Yes, hotmail is web based and you just use internet explorer 7 to access
hotmail.com.

Also, you can download windows live mail and access hotmail through a free
mail client.

Alternatively, you can install MSN 9.5 (the latest, recently released) which
supports vista. You have to download it, I believe from free.msn.com and a
subscription is required.

Simple answer yes, its web based and Microsoft is rebranding it to Windows
Live mail.

Outlook works fine for Hotmail. I'm connected to it right now. This is
Outlook 2007 from Office 2007.

Re: MSN (HOTMAIL)

Actually, MSN mail remains a separate product, but I assume you mean that it
is Hotmail that is being rebranded.

I'm using Outlook 2007 for Hotmail (as well as POP3 and IMAP accounts) as
Widnows Mail no longer supports Hotmail, and I am wondering why I didn't
move to using Outlook ages ago.

Well, Outlook only works with Hotmail Plus and above (paid subscription) and
'valued accounts' that were made x years ago. My two Hotmail accounts were
made around 1997, so they still work - but this is not the case for
everybody.

Re: MSN (HOTMAIL)

Download Windows Live Mail desktop client. It's new, free and works with
HTTP mail. Windows Mail is not going to support HTTP mail even if you have
the paid account. Other than Windows Live Mail your other choice is full
blown Outlook with a paid account.

Not true. A paid account is not needed. My Hotmail account is free, and
Outlook works just fine with it.

I'm trying one more time to reply to this.

How long have you had your Hotmail account?
You may be "grandfathered" in.

Microsoft is, indeed, transitioning to either paid access
to Hotmail or, you will need Window Live Mail *Desktop*.
WLMD comes with advertising, and besides that- I think
it sort of sucks.

Google mail comes with free Pop access. AIM email
comes with free IMAP access, too. The only thing I
use my Hotmail for, is a "throw away" email used for
signing up to stuff and on those occasions I need a
Passport/Windows Live ID for something.

I don't know - several years anyway.

None of which changes the fact that a paid account is not necessary. Stop
the FUD.

As I said, my free Hotmail adresses still work with OE on XP/2003 and
Outlook, but this ONLY the case with 'valued accounts' that have been
'grandfathered in'.

As *I* said, therefore a paid Hotmail account is not necessary.
