| Getting VMware server 1.01 working in Vista RTM x64??? Anyone know how? I have tried VirtualPC 2007, and it installs (after I install XML4), but it STILL does not support USB pass-thru devices, so is no good to me, so I need to revert to the faithful VMWare, however it gets to the end of the install, then rolls back... Arrgghh... |

The 64 guest just can be run in selected CPU. http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/doc/intro_hostreq_ws.html VMware also can run in 32bit Vista (I use VMware workstation 5.5.3. Vmware will prompt windows 6 is not supported, but it does not product any problem) but not sure in 64bit Vista. -- Jacky Kwok jacky@alumni_DOT_cuhk_DOT_edu_DOT_hk jacky@compose_DOT_com_DOT_hk |

| Re: Getting VMware server 1.01 working in Vista RTM x64??? Vista ain't done til VMWare don't run? Huh, what do you know... VMWare installs a number of 32bit drivers, since it's Vista 64bit that you're trying to run it under that's your reason why it's failing. From memory I think for all (kernel mode) drivers under 64bit windows have to be signed by Microsoft, since VMWare is 32bit and the version of windows you're using is 64bit you've got a slight issue there. Your issues are: * VMWare cannot install 32bit drivers into a 64bit os, they have to be 64bit drivers. * Drivers likely aren't signed.
