Vista and VLC Player

Hi ,

If you use VLC Player on Windows Vista it takes away the aero effect.

I was wondering does anyone know how to either keep the aero effect with
vista ( im guessing you cant ),

or can anyone recomend another player that plays almost all movie extensions
like vlc does, and still keep aero effect?

Thanks,

Riley

Re: Vista and VLC Player

That application might has some dependency on Java which has been known to
disable Glass if the latest version Java 6 SE is not installed. Try that and
see if it resolves the problem:

Re: Vista and VLC Player

Yes I have the new java,

And yes Tim, it does not loose aero UNTIL you play a video, then aero is
lost.

So...what could be causing this?

Re: Vista and VLC Player

Tim,
Andre's correct; some applications need the new Java 6 to resolve that
Aero problem.
Tim & Andre,
Think this is the link that you're looking for.
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea.jsp

Goes right to Java 6; and it's under :
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Release Candidate
The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java
applications.

It may help

Re: Vista and VLC Player

Riley,

Some apps just aren't set up to run with Aero,
if you are running Java 6- not the Java 5 update 6;then
it's the application itself.

This will be an effect that we will see with a lot of legacy video players.
I use VLC myself, but haven't got it installed on this Vista machine yet.

Any programs that use plian video overlay will cause Aero to switch of while
the app is in use. I've seen this happen when I am using DScaler.

New versions of VLC, etc, will have to start using VMR instead, which allows
more than one windows to use overlay (or something like that).

I have seen Aero being fixed in this way since the Java update. I didn't
realise why some of my apps, like ArchiCAD 10, started behaving properly
until now.

However, the problem with Aero and video apps is a seperate issue as I have
explained in my other post in this thread.

RE: Vista and VLC Player

Also I have noticed that I cannot get a fullscreen overlay from VLc or any
media player on vista. I was able to use the NVidia control panel to send a
fullscreen to my tv when playing videos in XP but I cannot get that done in
Vista at all. Has anyone here been able to do that or is it never going to
happen in vista

Re: Vista and VLC Player

U'll need to change preferences in VLC for video to work. Check under output
modules in video section it should be windows GDI output in place of
default.Save the changes and reopen vlc it'll work.

Thanks and regards,

Mohit
