If this newsgroup is not moderated it should be

A moderator should keep an eye on posts by 'Andre Da Costa' because he has
succumbed to personal attacks.

Recently he told Chad Harris "you are dumber than I originally thought. I
hear they are doing auditions for Dumb and Dumber 3".
To which I posted: "Andre, I think personal attacks like "you are dumber
than I originally thought" are unproductive in this newsgroup and reflect
poorly on you."

I was shocked to read a reply of ***"I think you need to leave these groups
because you have been pretty much useless in it"***
, and even Michael was shocked: "Wow- is this really Andre? I thought more
of you. -Michael"

I bet Michael was even more shocked by Andre's retort: "Michael - I was
never looking for your respect."

So there you go... In what is termed a *news*group, Andre Da Costa posts
arrogant hubristic personal attacks.

It's sad that this *news*group has degenerated to this because of one
indivdual's issues.
I doubt a moderator would do anything anyway, Andre Da Costa is 'in sweet'
with Microsoft - he already has a copy of the RTM release of Vista, which
says a lot.
Maybe this arrogant 'attitude' is appreciated by MS?.

I agree. This group is here to help people not be a place for personal
attacks against one another.

Ok, I apologize, but do you really need to bring in the fact I am running
RTM and saying Microsoft is encouraging me to attack posters in here? Also,
you forget the part where Chad and Moto started this, I should have known
better than to stoop to their level. Why aren't you rebuking them too? It
shows the level of double standard some of us like to keep up.

Yesterday was the first time I started arguing in here with other posters. I
started out in these ngs in early January along with other posters such as
Zack, Jeff, Travis, Richard, Jane C, Carlos, Colin and many others and we
have gotten along just fine. I have only tried to be helpful and share my
enthusiasm for Windows Vista which I have been covering on my blog since
Dec. 2004.

The Microsoft newsgroups are not moderated. They are, more or less, self
policing. There are rules of conduct, that if crossed, are frowned upon. A
horse whipping is also frowned upon. Only a few individuals have ever been
banned or chastised, to my knowledge and they are not of this group.

Re: If this newsgroup is not moderated it should be

The problem is that people only remember the bad things. I'm not sure why,
but they seem to be the most memorable. I've been posting in this newsgroup
since late April/early May and the 'Andre Da Costa' I know has always been
here to help.

Its ok, we all have bad days and get frustrated, especially when people
bring politics, false information, or purposely attack others and/or their
ideas. However, this is bound to happen in an international, open group like
this.

Keep up the good work - and try not to bite off any ears!

This is pretty same by usenet standards, you kinda get used to idiots like
Chad Harris, and ignore them, they usually get bored, and find a new way
to amuse themselves...

Re: If this newsgroup is not moderated it should be

I hope not. Moderated groups do not allow for on-topic opinions, but instead
are subject to "news nazis" who allow or disallow a post depending on thier
own interpretation. We see a bit of OT stuff here, but those threads die
rather quickly, and you can always block anyone that annoys you. I've had
some rather dreadful experiences in moderated groups, and will never partake
of them again.

As to Andre and that particular interaction, I see nothing wrong with his
expressing himself and his opinion of Chad, as Chad certainly is capable of
expressing and defending himself as well. To his credit, Andre was reacting,
not instigating, and if you poke a bear with a stick over and over, sooner
or later it will react and you may not like the response. No one requires
anyone to read all threads, and if something doesn't hold interest for you,
just mark it as read and move on. Responding is what keeps OT threads alive,
ignoring them allows them to die. Microsoft, by the way, pays very little,
if any, attention to the content of the public groups and its contributors.

Re: If this newsgroup is not moderated it should be

Firstly, I did *not* state "Microsoft is encouraging me [you] to attack
posters in here", so please do not distort what I said.
I did state you appear to be 'in sweet' with Microsoft considering you
already have the RTM release of Vista, which makes me think a MS moderator
would 'turn a blind eye' to your personal attacks.

Secondly, there is no "double standard" here so do not portray yourself as a
'victim'. Personal attacks are unproductive and poor form, irrespective of
the writer. Comments such as your "you are dumber than I originally
thought" are going too far indeed.

Thirdly, even if your childish claim of "Chad and Moto started this" is
true, you should not sink to personal comments in your retort.

I'm sure you've "gotten along just fine" with your Friends, because I doubt
you have told them "I think you need to leave these groups because you have
been pretty much useless in it". As originally stated ... comments like
this "reflect poorly on you", not on the recipient.

That Andre, is a lie. You were arguing with me and attacking me in a
thread with the subject:

Invisible Processes - Why?

Back on the 12th and 13th of March in this very group! Back then I was
posting under the handle of "capitan".

Your continued arguing and insults on other posters here is more than
enough. Do you really think you need to continue lie too?!?

Andre:
I missed or marked as read the post in question. An apology isn't required
because it's only natural or human to respond negatively in many situations.
Going back to x64 beta I don't remember you responding negatively even when
flamed. Also looking at the person crying foul, it's rare to see a positive
post. You've helped me and countless others keep up the great work.

Re: If this newsgroup is not moderated it should be

If the newsgroup was moderated I doubt if I'd participate. For me the
differing opinions is one of the best things about usenet. We all get
carried away sometimes when buttons are pushed but it rarely gets too far
out of hand. When it does it usually degenerates very quickly to two
individuals trading "did, did not" back and forth like a couple of kids.
This is pretty easy to spot and ignore.

Re: Adults don't need babysitters and certainly not one like MSFT

You would not be "stooping to Chad's level" in most any endeavor you
attempted while taking a breath on this planet. What a childish insult. My
level was to state that there is no law against using the Beta from whatever
means and whatever MSFT intimates, I've never seen them intimate it with
supporting case law. They've made Brad Smith and Nancy Anderson their
general counsel and deputy general counsel multimillionaires with salary
perks and stock options, and I don't see them citing any controlling
authority that using a Beta in whatever context is illegal.

I didn't start anything and all one has to do is to look and see the
sequence of posts. You can configure your Win Mail on your RTM (how btw did
you get the RTM Andre? why so coy? Tell them you were bribed to be
syncophantic with a little Wendy S. Swag and like a lot of sheep you want to
respond.

There was a bunch of noise that isn't informed by any law on the planet
earth, and certainly not in the US. Additionally, although I didn't raise
this except briefly to Cary, there are a number of countries that don't
outlaw any P2P software, including the outright stealing of music, movies,
games and TV shows that has become pandemic in the United States.

I saw a bunch of misinformed jibberish as to the law. I corrected it. It
wasn't informed by legal education, litigation experience, and certainly not
by on point, controlling case law or code sections. There seemed to be a
syncophantic desperation to cling to some perceived message by MSFT who
delights in Beta attention because they deploy the Beta to the unwashed
masses as they perceive their customers to help sales. I started out in
these groups with many posters including some you named and so what? Do a
search and I've made many substantive posts to help people in the public
groups although I've cut back because I have other things I'd rather be
doing.

I've helped a number of TBTs too.

I have as much enthusiasm as you are anyone else for Windows, but I also am
disappointed in the shortcomings of Vista that are very obvious. Your blogs
do an excellent job and I've complemented you on them and your posts as
well. I have a lot of enthusiasm for MSFT software and a lot of passion
when they do things that are less than moral (supporting Chinese policy that
tortures, and sometimes kills MSN searchers in China and their families
after MSFT reports them to the Chinese government). I also have a lot of
Windows enthusiasm and evangelize when I think it's warranted, am sorry to
see so many significant bugs that weren't addressed by RTM.

I have been very focused in hundreds of threads in private and public
newsgroups toward getting some one working, up and running.
