Vista Home Basic vs XP

Home Basic is what I may consider to upgrade.
What benefits will I get if I upgrade my XP Home to Vista Home ??

Are you sure, Andre, that we will get all this *before* SP2 for Vista?

Yes, it's in there... but how reliable?

And do you really believe that your summary of values added in Vista
as compared to XP, i. e.
"Parental Controls, Instant Search and organization, Basic User
Interface,
Improved Networking, improved Security and realiability, Backup."
justify a 'new' OS?

Well, Instant Shutdown, UAC, Windows Aero are great improvements that make
the OS nicer. :)

The smiley saves you, Andre ;-)

Yes, Vista is nicer than XP is nicer than W2K or W98.

There will be benefits like more secure system but at the moment I cant see
any real reason to spend money when XP does a good job for me

Re: Vista Home Basic vs XP

I could be incorrect, but I believe I saw that Vista Home Basic does not have
Aeroglass. Despite some of the derogatory "eye candy" comments, it is nice to
have something nice to look at, I remember the days of the plain old blue or
black screen with nothing but text (usually yellow) and around 640x???
resolution. I forget which version, but one of the early versions of
WordPerfect was basically nothing but a screen with text - it was
booooooooooring! Yes, the Aeroglass is a "frill" but I sit in front of a
screen all day and anything to make less boooooooooooring is great.

I agree with you that I think whichever version someone upgrades to, they
are better off, just wanted to throw in my doubts about Aeroglass being in
the basic version

Re: Vista Home Basic vs XP

No, AERO Glass is not in Home Basic, but it does take advantage of the
Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) effects such as Live Taskbar thumbnails,
Switch window (Flip 3d) and Windows Color and Appearance effects minus the
tranlucency and transparencies of course.

Re: Vista Home Basic vs XP

Think about this too:
Windows Defender
Windows Internet Explorer 7
Windows Media Player 11

All down leveled for XP

similar features available for or in XP today:
Windows Desktop Search 3
Windows Live Desktop Mail
Limited User Account

and others I can't think of.

Vista will take more resources than XP?
i may have to replace my current software with new Vista compatible version
(that cost a lot)?
the new Vista will be slower than my current XP?
There's fax in XP Home, is there a new improved version available in Vista
Home basic ???
what about Voice machine ? It's not in XP but I will defintely go for Vista
if there is one in Vista?
