| FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! I was afraid that firefox, Maxthon and Avantbrowser would lose lots of dedicated users (well not ff users that much because they love it for too many reasons) with the release of IE7. But now the incredibly low quality of IE7 is a gift to those people who were working on those alternative browsers. It seems that THEY are the ones who will bring browsers to another level an keep advancing the technology. I urge you to take a look at these alternative "shells" and firefox if you have not done it yet: In other words, my main tip for IE7 users is to avoid using it :-) (hehe I know.. I know but IE7s User interface is reeaaaalllllly bad) www.avantbrowser.com >> this is the best shell (or alternative user interface) for the IE6 or IE7 rendering engine. If you want the extra security but hate the IE7 interface, install IE7 but use the avantbrowser shell (interface). www.Maxthon.com >> version 2.0 is coming very soon.. and it looks nice.... and of course Firefox www.getfirefox.com Firefox has a simple interface when you first install it, BUT this browser can do almost anything imaginable with add-ons, so after installing it, go to tools> add-ons and explore the site... you will be amazed https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/extensions/ (to install these you must go to the site with firefox) Tip 1: Many add-ons are not yet compatible with the fresh version 2 of FireFox, BUT you can use this add-on to trick them into thinking you are using the older version. I have seen 95% of the add-ons that I have tried work great! Get it here http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/nightly See screenshots on how to use it: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2797/compatible2ur7.jpg or if you upgraded from 1.5.x and your add-ons are no longer working.. see here: MAGIC!!! http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5421/compatiblefz1.jpg NOTE: Its not possible to have tested all the FF add-ons so I can be sure that something may not go wrong, so you can try these add-ons on the portable version of FF you will see below, if all your add ons work good, then you can install them on the normal installed version of FF Tip2: If you dont want to install FF but you want to try it, you can use the PORTABLE version from here www.portableapps.com RC3 is the SAME build (same thing) as version 2.0 Portable apps normally are used on removable drives like USB sticks, but no one says you cant use them on your hard drive as normal programs! Thats what I do to avoid installing too much stuff..... I am unfortunately leaving out opera... I am doing this on purpose.. because they insist on holding on to their "strange" interface, that alienates new users.... |

| Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! How could I forget this??? One of the main reasons people avoid using FireFox is that it cannot render all the sites correctly and only IE can... well... install this Add-on and create a TAB with the IE rendering engine within Firefox!!! https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/ in other words you use firefox, but the tab is actually loading the internet explorer engine! So everything is displayed correctly. | RE: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! Well......progressive realization i must say i've seen u somewhere else on this forum knocking ie7. Can't say i blame you though, i can't even install the stupid thing....it just tells me "setup unable to initialize msftedit.dll; check log" and that's it. And yeah i do have xp sp2, didn't uninstall any windows components, have tried installing it in safe mode with networking support, i'm just tired. FF on the other hand feels light and nifty which is really good, i like it's seeming flexibility plus the fact that it can do just about all i need it to do is really good. I didn't even need to restart my pc, it starts with almost bare-bones and allows you to feel it up as you like (very good engineering) with whatever tickles your fancy. If this is how vista is going to be, i'm off to linux again. | Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! Microsoft can do a far better job.... I believe that they can make a tremedus difference for the better... that is why I am so harsh on them.. because I expect only suburb quality and innovation from them. They have the time, they have the money they have the brains they have the talent.... Its such a shame to see all those being wasted. And the crashes and problems other people are having, I am sure those problems will be worked out with time... Do you really like the interface? I mean you cant do anything with it.. | Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! Many people have problems with life also, but the vast majority of people run it just fine, especially the version that come with Windows Vista. Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2 are the best browsers. I am sure there are people who have problems with Firefox 2, however, I am not one of them. FACT not opinion. | Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! Internet Explorer is a wonderful browser. I love the clean simple user interface. It is stable and runs on all our computers beautifully. I work for Boeing, and we have a great many different configurations and I have not seen any problems with Internet Explorer 7 on any of them. I wish there were an Internet Explorer 7 version for OS X and Linux. | Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! any pre-install advice as I yet to upgrade my XP computers to IE7? I was looking forward to a tabbed IE but after using IE in Vista the prospect of the new release for XP didn't have me downloading ASAP. I did install FF2 & the release candidates for this browser - love it but miss it in Vista :( I have just made a full backup of one of my XP computers before any decision to install IE7 don't want this on an auto as I would prefer to know when I am going to install. Read various posts about install problems - presume the less running in the background the more chance of a successful install? I will still use FF as my main browser but know the odd time I have to run IE. | Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!! My wife upgraded her own computer with Internet Explorer 7 and runs it just fine without a problem, and she is hardly a tech geek. 'It is so easy to use, even a Caveman, ... or my wife, can use it.' Internet Explorer 6 was a piece of junk, however, Internet Explorer 7 is the best thing since... well, move over sliced bread!
