useing optical through soundcard

i installed vista rc 1 build 5600 no glitches as yet ( happy little bunny) ,
just one question i cant use my optical connection through soundcard as i
play it through my stereo, its a multimedia digitallive pci 5.1 soundcard ok
not much but, any ideas
