The version of NTFS in a command prompt on my copy of "Microsoft Windows XP 5.1.2600" is apparently "3.1" ("three decimal one"). At least that is what "fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo C:" returns to me, right below the line which reads "NTFS volume xxxxxxxxxxxx", and is labeled "Version" (which I assume refers to the version of NTFS residing on "NTFS volume xxxxxxxxxxxx"). If it refers to something else, please properly educate us? After all, you are a "Microsoft MVP shell user", and should know what it refers to better than most. Perhaps, though, it returns something different to you? Donald ------------------------------------------- |

| Re: Does Vista use a new version of NTFS? Right clicking on the NTFS.sys file and going to the properties/version tab shows this information: 6.0.5744.16384 Of course, it may just be a place holder till RTM and may change. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! | Re: Does Vista use a new version of NTFS? You are right. It is, in fact, version 3.1 as of this time. Had a brain fart and was using file version. | Re: Does Vista use a new version of NTFS? Well the press does call it 5.1 so .. ... this was all gone over with Windows XP way back when. You can call it 5.1. and you can call it 3.1. Heck, call it "FAT34", most people won't know.
