XP Start Menu Option?

I have to say that I don't like the new start menu.
I much preferred having all of the programs visible (or autohiding the ones
that I hadn't used recently) and being able to mouse over them really quickly
to see what they contained.
I know you can choose "Classic Start Menu", but that gives you the Windows
95 look.
Don't you think also having "XP Start Menu" as an option would be useful too?

New Vista start menu with instant search is beautiful, I'll never change
with XP.
Do you want run the Paint? Then type "pai" and press enter
Do you want run the Notepad? Then type "not" and press enter
Do you want run Windows Mail? Then type "mail", look, and press enter
Do you want change the Windows Firewall settings? Then type "firewall",
look, and press enter
Do you want read the Mom's letter? Then type "mom", look, and press enter
Do you want play with your favourite games? Then type its name
This is beautiful!!!

Re: XP Start Menu Option?

this is REVOLTING....

The serach feature is good, although 99.9% of the population is a mouse user
and not a keyboard user,
but the way the vista start menu collapses upon itself and does not cascade
is one of the worst ideas on vista.

The main concept of the Windows OS has always been point and click. If I wanted to type I
would still be using DOS. The option for the Classic Start Menu should at least be
available. Using Windows XP, my CUSTOMIZED Classic Start Menu gets me where I want to go
using less steps, and less desktop real estate. The Windows Vista eye candy is
meaningless to me. What is important to me and other Power Users is getting the task
done. All of the bashing of people who are not enthused about Windows Vista, with lines
of rhetoric like "One must move ahead" is ridiculous. Sometimes moving ahead with a new
version of an OS is not the best move. REMEMBER Windows ME??? Many in this group are
tech savvy, and are still having to post for fixes and work arounds, some of which are
major. Many end users, who are not tech savvy, will quickly lose their enthusiasm for the
pretty GUI, and not be happy campers. Perhaps by SP2 Windows Vista will at least be
feasible for many end users. Or, perhaps the aftermath of the release of Windows Vista
might be the opportune time for a different OS to gain a larger market share.

T.C.
