Bad sound quality

I have just installed Vista RC2 on a separate partition on my Compaq Presario
8000 (Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz) with a Creative SB Audigy sound card. My
problem is when I play MP3 or WMA music the sound quality is really bad and
sometimes it seems like it gets worse the longer I play! Sounds like a bad
codec or something. I have no problems at all when use XP.

Any clue?

Ulf

Vista handles audio differently than its predecessors. Look here for a
beta driver for your card, but don't expect much until after Vista is
released...

Re: Bad sound quality

I have a similar Audigy card. Actually the SE version. The only thing that
does not work is the microphone I have attached. I did happen to play with
my Sound Output settings and found that putting that card on the 16-bit,
44100KHz (CD Quality) setting helps remove the sound problem. Any higher
than that and my speakers start sounding like I am listening to the car
radio going out of a stations quality range.

Re: Bad sound quality

Thanks. I actually found a beta driver for Vista on Creative's home page and
installed it. It seems like this solved the problem. So far I have just tried
to play musice, no recording. Strange, with the old driver sound was OK for
half a minute or so, but then started to sound really bad and eventually it
stopped completely.
