| Windows Aero Glass won't turn back ON Hi I was experimenting changing display effect schemes yesterday. Went to no frills (all check boxes unticked) to Windows Classic to Windows Standard. Now when I try switching back to Aero (Glass), the option simply isn't there in the Appearance menu. Windows Vista Basic (XP like), Standard and Classic are the only ones that show up in Appearance properties. I do not have transparency or flip 3D. No drivers or display related software was installed. Has anyone seen this? Thanks |

Regedit: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition Value Data: 1 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy Value Data: 2 Restart system and enjoy. Greetings, Santi DeFerrol |

| Re: Windows Aero Glass won't turn back ON You shouldn't have too restart... try this: (copied from a msg a couple of days old... you may want to browse the msgs prior to posting...) Open regedit... HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition set to 1 (32-bit DWORD) HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy set to 2 (32-bit DWORD) Close regedit... Restart DWM by opening a command prompt with administrative privileges, i.e., run as administrator : - Type 'net stop uxsms' - Then 'net start uxsms' If it works, don't thank me; thank PaulB. | Re: Windows Aero Glass won't turn back ON The fix worked really well for me... thanks everybody! One more question... is there a way to stop Aero from turning off? After every few times I restard, Aero has turned off and I have to go through this procedure again. Is this a known problem with a fix? Thanks...
