Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

Hello Fellow Beta Tester's,

Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

Kevin John Panzke (MS Connect Beta Tester and MSDN Tester)

P.S. Do Not use Daemon Tools to Install RC2.

P.P.S. The results were not good (even with the Custom Install Method).

RE: Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

I agree. I did the update, but it didn't seem to work very well. I noticed
the fresh install took a little longer than RC1, but it was worth it. The
only problem I had was that RC2 didn't recognise my audio card at first "no
device installed," however that changed when I ran Windows Update, it found
my card, installed the driver (updated from my OEM drivers no doubt) It
picked up my video card and modem as well. The only drivers I had to install
was my PVR and my Firewire driver for Western Digital.
It still shows an issue with the WD hard drive, butthe hard drive is working
perfectly. I call it a slight glitch, but it doesn't effect the running of
the computer, so I am still satisfied.
RC2 seems to run faster. Start up and shut down are much quicker. The
programs seem to run a little more stable. No hangs or locks like I had with
RC1.
Overall, 2 thumbs up. The changes are pretty noticable on my end. Looks like
all those bug reports did something good.

Re: Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

Hi

What's wrong with updating from 5728 to 5744? Anything we need to know?
Can you be more specific when you say why the other methods are not as good?

What's wrong an ISO install thru Daemon Tools? Can you be more specific
please.

RE: Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

Sorry, should have Posted more details for those of you who are not in the
Technical Beta, My first install attempt was a X86 Build 5728 to 5744 Custom
Install using Daemon Tools and the OS was as Slow as a Turtle after the
Install.

My second install attempt was an X64 Format and Clean Install attempt, which
turned out much better then my first install attempt. This this the speed of
the OS was Outstanding.

What do you mean "should have Posted more details for those of you who are

Do you think they require more explanation?.

Re: Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

Keven,
Being in the Tech Beta, you should know that an 5728 to 5744 update is not
supported. Any bugs you turn in will not be accepted. FYI

RE: Format and Clean Install is the Best Install Method for RC2.

I also noticed that RC2 in indeed both a EDW Interim Build, and is from the
RTM Development Tree just by typing in Winver at the Run Command.

I was saying that I already posted plenty about what I like and dislike
about Build 5744 (which is a EDW Interim Build re-named as a Fake RC2 Mile
Stone Build, by the way) in the Private Beta Newsgroups, Just FYI. (I may
even possibly get myself into trouble with some of my Posts from Yesterday,
in the Private Newsgroups, lets just say, I have plenty of things that I
dislike about Windows Vista RC2, as well as I don't like some of the Other
Beta Tester's in the Private Beta Newsgroups).

Don't let them discourage you Kevin.
If you feel you can contribute in the "Private Beta Newsgroups" then go
ahead and do so ... that's why they are there.
