Can't move new toolbars out of taskbar like I used to in W2K and X

Hi,

In previous Windows OSes, I have pop up toolbars along the top and sides of
my desktops. This enables me to have quick access to apps when I have a ton
of windows open, and also enables access to apps and folders without having
to keep anything on the desktop.

To do this, I create a folder on the C drive called tools, which I then fill
with shortcuts. I then create a new toolbar on the taskbar, point it to
tools, and drag it from the taskbar to the top or side of my desktop. Show
large icons, hide text, auto on top, auto hide, done.

In vista I can't get the toolbar off the taskbar, even though the taskbar is
unlocked. Is this by design, or am I missing something? I either need my
popup toolbars, or I need to be able to replace the widgets in Windows
sidebar with useful app shortcuts. Can this be done? This is pretty much a
show-stopper if it can't be done, as I have all my my PCs and test servers
(14 and counting, not including VMs) set up this way.

Thanks,
Matt

Re: Can't move new toolbars out of taskbar like I used to in W2K and X

Read first, then post. This has been answered numerous times.
1) Create a New Folder on your desktop
2) Drag the folder to an edge--it becomes a Toolbar
3) Right click it {Toolbars}--choose from the list or choose New Toolbar--it
will be added
4) Close the New Folder Toolbar--the one you added remains.
5) Set your options as desired.
