| Accessibility observations/questions I work with people who have disabilities and took my first look at Vista this morning. Of course it looks very nice, but I have three distinct concerns that I hope can be answered. 1. Within the Advanced Appearance Properties, I may make the scrollbar and the active title bar larger to provide a larger target for a person who has trouble with the mouse. When I made changes in Vista, it seemed to apply the changes to the classic view but not to the the Vista "skin." 2. I wonder if the on-screen keyboard size can be made adjustable by the user. If that is too difficult, maybe just have a small, medium, and large-sized on-screen keyboard. Again, a person who has trouble targeting may prefer the larger target areas - or a person who has no trouble may prefer a smaller one. 3. I did not have JAWS or ZoomText or other screen reading software on this Vista computer, but I know people will still want to use these programs. I'm curious how somebody accesses the sidebar and reads it's information through the keyboard, or whether it will always read the pathway (Control Panel: Ease of Access Center: Ease of Access Visual Enhancements...) every time you move forward or backward. Also I saw the Office 2007 with the ribbons, which are visually much more informative but is it too long of a list for a person listening and scrolling through the items only with keystrokes. |
