Vista Home Premium shuts down unexpectedly.../Can't restart normal

Hi, I'm on an Hewlett-Packard Media PC (came with a 'Certified Vista
Compatible' sticker when I purchased it) and I've done a full, clean install
of Vista Home Premium (well...several installs really).

Actually a Hewlett-Packard Tech Rep guided me on this latest full, clean
install. Things work ok except Vista routinely shuts down unexpectedly - I
never seem to be at the computer when it happens though.

Also, if I do a restart, Vista does not always reboot correctly and it gets
stuck so that I often have to manually shut the computer off. Then it boots
and does a disk check and I finally reach my desktop after 2 or 3 tries.

Somebody mentioned a VistaBoot Pro software...Is this something I need ? Is
it available for download anywhere?

I do appreciate any help anyone could offer. Also, I have uninstalled any
programs and drivers which I considered questionable in terms of Vista
compatibility.

Many Thanks, Brightbelt

"Certified Vista Compatible" is a con by PC OEMs. All it means is that the PC
will run Vista Home Basic. Look for "Vista Ready" sticker. How much RAM and
Graphics do you have? Vista Home Premium should have 128mbs Graphics and 1Gig
Ram.

RE: Vista Home Premium shuts down unexpectedly.../Can't restart no

Wow, now you tell me. Anyways, I do have 2 GB of ram memory and an Nvidia
Geforce 7300 LE graphics card. It has a 64-bit memory interface (I'm not
sure if that refers to the same thing as mb of ram).

All this is kind of a mute point now - because after discovering another
(recuring) problem of both my Rom drives missing, I finally had had enough
and un-installed Vista and returned my PC to XP Media and to its original
factory settings.

I gave Vista several, (like...4 or 5), attempts counting my laptop (a
separate, genuine license). And I'm talking at least 3 or 4 full, clean
installs. Right now, it just seems like an obstacle course where the odds
are stacked against you.

Vista is a gorgeous program. It'll be more usable when the rest of the
computer world joins up with it.
