Are you able to boot into Vista? If so, Control Panel, Backup and Restore
Center,Restore files or Restore computer.

Is the USB drive connected to a direct USB port on the rear of the computer?

Re: VISTA restore complete PC backup

It is an Acer Laptop and the USB-HD is directly connectet. I put a new HD in
because the old crashed and then I installed Vista new and if I start Vista i
can see and use the HD.

Re: VISTA restore complete PC backup

I remember someone else saying they went into their
BIOS settings and enabled "Legacy USB". The BIOS
may even have something that says "Assign IRQ for USB",
make sure that is yes/enabled.

This is a shot in the dark, but have you installed this
update? I'm out of suggestions. Good luck!

Re: VISTA restore complete PC backup

Boot from the dvd with the USB disk plugged in.
When it gets to the point of searching for a backup & tells you it cannot
find one, unplug the USB disk & plug it back in.
In should find it.
Don't know why, but I have seen this before & got round it in this way.

maybe...........

Some questions:

Is the restore image in the root of the external drive, I noticed sub-fildering your image will make it undetectable, you need to keep it in the same location Windows places it in.

RE: maybe...........

Yes it is in the root of the external drive, but there is a second backup
also, maybe this is the problem.
