| Internet Explorer stopped working Last week I acquired two new computers with OEM Vista Home Premium. Yesterday I installed on both computers Canon Printer MP600, using the downloaded Vista driver for it. Printer worked OK from both computers. When afterwards I tried to go on line, Vista gave me the message "Internet Explorer has stopped working - Check online for a solution" which did nothing but give a list of problem details. Same on the second computer. Among the details listed were: Application version 7.0.6000.16386 Faulty module version 6.0.6000.16386 Faulty module timestamp 4549bdc9 Exception code c0000005 Trying to install IE7 from the latest PC World DVD disk produces the message that the operating system won't accept it. I then tried FireFox but with the same result. On one computer I made a system restore with the result that the Printer has "disappeared" but I still get the same result trying to go online. I am at my wit's end. Is there anyone that has a solution? Gus |

| RE: Internet Explorer stopped working I had both IE 7 and Firefox 2 working on a new Dell with Vista Home but when I told IE it couldn't be my default browser then it wouldn't boot up at all. It's very sensitive about such things. (MS should be more than aware by now why even us pro-MS customers don't think much of IE 7.) The O/S message tells me to check online for solutions but I receive no response. In the dialog box Details section it says Appcrash but a search of the KB and other sources provides no help. I have few programs installed; mostly Adobe / Macromedia programs. They work fine so far. I tried installing IE 7 from the MS site but it won't do a re-install. I tried using the Dell OEM disk for Vista to repair the installation but there is no repair function. It tried to do a complete install than after about an hour the install crashed and it rolled back to the original. The only reason I can see now that I would want IE is for access to the Vista help files. It is probably easier to just by a book. I've worked with new O/S releases since CP/M and MSDOS 3 days so I've been through this before :-) - jim Dell E521 / Athlon x64 duel core / 4GB RAM / Vista Basic 32 bit (Dell won't install 64 bit) |

| RE: Internet Explorer stopped working I am having the same problem. Suddenly the IE icon leads me to the "IE has stopped working" message. I tried bypassing the icon and opening IE directly, but got the same result. However, by chance I discovered that clicking on the "check for updates" link in CCleaner sometimes opens up IE. It does not always happen. Sometimes it just leads to the "IE has stopped working" message. Other times it opens up IE. After getting IE opened and running fine, if I click on the IE icon, I still get the error message, but the opened IE window keeps working fine. I'm using a Compaq Presario that I purchased yesterday that came with Vista Premium installed. | Re: Internet Explorer stopped working What are the full details? The application name, module name, and fault bucket number are also extremely important. =) -- Speaking for myself only. | Re: Internet Explorer stopped working So what's CCHook.kll (or cchook.dll)? That seems to be a third party tool .... why is that installed? It would appear that removing that would make you happier. Is that really Close Combat? Why is that hooking into IE? Can you disable that in IE's Tools:Manage Add-ons? -- Speaking for myself only. | Re: Internet Explorer stopped working Sorry, it is CCHook.dll. I searched my HD and this dll is part of a Pantone color utility that I need for my 3D computer graphics (3ds Max) and other digital content creation in Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc. Thanks for the advice and I'll try to get this sorted out with Pantone. Thanks for helping me understand how the Details of the problem works. - jim |
