| Windows experience index, some help please. TIA. I have a HP a1520y that I purchased before the vista release and came with 512MB of memory. It is vista ready. I got my free vista upgrade last week and installed it over the media center OS. Two days ago, I finally got my second stick of 512MB memory, same brand same specs. After the memory install and powering up I got a "new hardware detected" message and I hit refresh to get it to update my added memory. It did nothing, the base score is still the same after almost 20 refresh cycles. The system sees the full 1GB of memory but did not change the memory score of 2.0. I tested the memory few times with windows and other applications and no errors! My next lowest score in the index is the Aero performance which is at 3.2 so, memory is the only thing pulling my score down. The "new hardware detected" message still shows up even after all the refresh and update index cycles! The system seems to run fine and the Aero and "nice" graphics kicked in automatically after adding the memory but the system does not want to update the score. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Lisa |

| Re: Windows experience index, some help please. TIA. The memory score is based on how fast the memory is, not how much you have. Well, that too... but primarily how fast it is. This is limited by your memory and your motherboard. | Re: Windows experience index, some help please. TIA. Thanks for your post. That is not the issue! Windows sees the extra memory and glass and Aero kicked in! The problem is that "new hardware detected" is alwyes there and windows won't update my score after hitting refresh many times. It still says "new hardware detected"!!!! Thanks again, hope someone can help out! More likely you plugged a USB device back into the PC into a different USB port than it was in before. |

| Re: Windows experience index, some help please. TIA. Hi, I have a 2month old DigitalStorm Twister Ultra with quad core, sli 8800gtx and vista. And the same problem as Lisa. WEI is always 1 based on graphics. Hardware is always new in WEI. Refresh and Update always fail to complete because "directx version less than 8.0 detected". DxDiag=OK with version 10. Device Manager lists no problems. Fear Demo runs fine with max bells and whistles--on 1680x1050 lcd. Lisa is on to something! I'd like my accurate index too!
