| Basic, silly email question My apologies in advance for this silly OT question. I have an msn.com email address and access my emails using MSN Explorer and various broadband connections. What are my send/receive email server names? Thanks very much. Bob Feduniak |

| Re: Basic, silly email question Hi, Bob. I would agree with Dustin, but... Here in Windows Mail, my MSN email servers are shown as: pop3.live.com and\ smtp.live.com I've had this RCWhite@msn.com account since 1995 but seldom use it. RC -- R. C. | Re: Basic, silly email question I agree with Ronnie. I know that a couple of years ago MS changed things so that it was no longer possible to access Hotmail using Outlook Express. I realize we are talking now about MSN mail and Windows Mail, but I think both are basically in the same "family" as Hotmail and OE. Wendy, would I be correct in assuming you could not access MSN mail via Outlook or Outlook Express? That you had to go to the MSN mail website to get your mail? Just think of Windows Mail as Outlook Express. Whatever didn't work with Outlook Express won't work with Windows Mail. When you start up Windows Mail the wizard takes you through the setup, and when you type your email address with the @msn.com domain it dumps you out, and points you to a Q article which says that Windows Mail doesn't support http mail any more. Outlook Express, of course, allows you to set up a msn.com address. -- tbreit ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tbreit's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?u=52354 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=720066 http://forums.techarena.in |

But then, MSN already HAS a web client. One of the many examples of Microsoft's ambiguous naming conventions is that there are two sorts of mail accounts with msn.com domains, some of which are hotmail and some of which aren't. But the Windows Mail setup wizard blithely assumes they're all hotmail, and says to hell with them. If, as is the case here, you've been imprudent enough to be using OE as your email client for your MSN account, and you've got 1.5 gb of mail files on the hard drive of your aging XP box, you're kinda out of luck. Unless you buy Office 2007, and hopefully you can import the OE datafiles into Outlook 2007. Spend the money and see; it could work. -- tbreit ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tbreit's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?u=52354 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=720066 http://forums.techarena.in |
