Re: My phone call with Microsoft. (Refund)

Well, look at it this way, you can get maintenance update for XP until 2008,
mainstream support for XP Pro until 2012.

Re: My phone call with Microsoft. (Refund)

I avoided the refund process altogether. I tested the August Beta.
After using it for one week, I formatted the hard drive. I used one
partition for Windows Xp and the rest of the hard drive for PCLINUXOS.
Since I do not use Windows XP for graphics intensive games, I recently
moved my licensed copy to a virtual machine. I have not regretted my
decision.

So you're in here complaining about Vista after only using a beta?

Re: My phone call with Microsoft. (Refund)

I wasn't complaining. I saw that I did not like it, and as owner/
operator of this computer I decided that I would try something else.
What gave you the idea that Vista was out of Beta?

You should try the RTM, its way more stable than the 5xxx pre RC1 build.

Re: My phone call with Microsoft. (Refund)

I still have the DVD here somewhere. I could reinstall it if I wanted to
in a virtual machine, but what would be the point. I didn't like it. I
have worked on other people's computers that do have it and my opinion
hasn't changed. It sucked then and it still sucks. Please note: I said
that this was my opinion. Interestingly enough, this is still my
machine. I paid for it and no operating system is going to undermine
what I can do on my own machine. I do not want to rely on an operating
system that just decides not to work one day, because I change a hard
drive, or install a game program. I do not want an operating system that
decides to reduce the quality of the output without any input from me.
You, of course, are free to use it and maybe I will learn more on this
newsgroup, so I can help others use it, who are unfortunate enough to
have it installed as the primary operating system on their machine. And
then again, maybe they will be frustrated enough, that they will want me
to install a different operating system. Something that is actually user
friendly.

Take out your hard drive and install it on another one and change your
NIC and video card and then tell us how well it "works".

It took me about 30 minutes to decide to roll back my Millenium upgrade
back to Windows98, and never touched it again.

Even you can agree that was a good decision, and a total waste of money.

Sometimes you just know........

You can't bring ME into the arguement. I think it's a law somewhere...

It should be. :-) I agree that was a good decision. But Vista is a lot
better than ME.

Of course Vista is a lot better than Millenium.

But to be fair, the comparison is Win98 -> Millenium, and XP -> Vista.
