Im trying to run MS demonstrations or livemeeting recordings on my vista
machine and media player crashes when trying to play the files. Any fix for
this or is it just another example of MS files not working with MS programs?
This is a base installation, there have been no codecs or 3rd party players
added.

Yes, I have the same problem.

Downloading AVI digital video files from my Sony VideoCam in AVI files
crashes MS MOvie Maker 6 in Vista Home Premium to the Blue Screen.

Then if I import AVI files to playback in WMP 11 it crashes into the Blue
Screen.

Same thing happens with Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0.2, VISTA crashes to blue
screen over and over again...

AVI files come in two main formats, uncompressed (very large) and
compressed. The AVI format also is a wrapper where other file types
can be inside, very common for files downloaded off the Internet which
frequently are divX.

Need more information. What model camera? Sony uses a new format
called AVCHD for HD on some newer, higher priced (professional)
models, others use more standard formats.

Also HOW are you connecting the camera to your computer? Via firewire
or by some other means?

to the first hexadecimal number.

If you are going to ask for the BCC (Bug Check Code aka Stop) then we'll
want the entire message. Especially if the crashing driver is mentioned.

'm using the same SONY HandyCam Model DCR-HC42 miniDV camrecorder I've been
using for years on a FireWire 1394 ( works fine on MS Movie Make 2 in XP,
Adobe Premiere 3 in XP, MS Media Play 10 in XP, QuickTime 7.1.5, and Roxio
Creator 9 in XP, etc. etc. It is NOT HD, the AVI files are 720X480. They are
not downloaded off the internet, they come direct off my miniDV cam.

I do not know much about machine language, but the Blue Screen
"Uncorrectable Hardware Error Code " is:

00000124 (0X00000000 0x854da560,0xb2000000,0x00000175

Sometime the inter letters and numbers are a little different, but the last
"175" is always the same. There is never any mention of any driver, etc, just
"Uncorrectable Hardware Error."

I've just done my third clean reinstall of Vista Home Premium, so I don't
have all the Problem Reports and Events to share, although I sent over 100 of
them to MS Error Reporting and there was never any Solution sent back to me
over the last month.

What is so weird about it, in addition to crashing when attempting to import
AVI directly from the video camera or attempting to play back another AVI
file imported from my XP machine, it also crashes when attempting to view a
DVD too.

Although, using the OEM Vista Windows Media Center external to Vista, I can
import and playback the same AVI or DVD that crashes Vista without a problem?

That leads me to believe it is not a problem with the nVidia GeForce 7900GS
VISTA 32bit 100.65 driver.

under any circumstances while in MS Vista????

I got this machine specifically as a Digital Video-Photography Graphics Work
Station to upgrade from my older Dell Demension WIN XP SP2 setup that I've
been using for years with excellent results, but so far I have been batting
ZERO.

The Vista SDK does not list this BCC error. Therefore what the parameters
mean is unknown.

Go to oca.microsoft.com and upload a dump file.

Or get Vista Symbols from PSDK part of MS Web site, also Windows Debugging
Tools, load crash dump (make it a bigger one if smaller ones don't help BUT
only upload a Mini Dump to MS). File Menu - Open Dump File - read what it
says (may need to configure symbol path - file menu again) in the command
line in Windbg (it's a mixed menu/command line environment) type
!analyse -v

This may provide the driver's name.

The 0x854da560 is a memory address. It may be within the driver's address
range. Except I don't know how to get driver addresses from Vista. In XP the
program was on the CD in the Support Tools.

People with this error suspect Audio, Video, and underpowered power
supplies. Sample too small to generalise and evidence is flimsy. My first
thought was video drivers though.

If you upload reports your computer will tell you the cause (and maybe fix)
if it's known - it does this in a piss poor UI fashion. If it knows it tells
you with a link in the last dialog if uploading a report, if not you do not
see any UI for Solutions. MS likes nondeterministic everything. Then noone
can complain it's not working right. If not known, MS works on bugs that it
a/ knows about
b/ It is replicatable (ie same hardware with same configuration should crash
when doing same thing else they may need to come to your house to debug it)
c/ [This is what MS says is a/] Severity of problem (a non booting computer
is more serious than notepad not working)
d/ The number of people with the problems (number of problem uploads is
effectively a voting mechanism for which problems get fixed).

And lastly, you made an error in the BCCode - you ommitted the 0x that says
it is hexidecimal number, this means I had to type the correct error number
into Help, PSDK, and Google - that means I had to stand up to get my
keyboard. If I did not know it was a BCCode I would assumed it was decimal
rather than hexidecimal too, I checked your post carefully in case you had
converted it to decimal.

How do you know no codecs have been added? Autodownload by media player,
codecs installed by video cards, sound cards, TV tuners, or DVD sofware.
Help - About - Technical Support Infomation. Though there is a KB for XP
that says there is no sure way of finding all codecs. Make of that what you
will.

If you need to view them, or just as a test - can Media Centre play them. If
you have Nero or something like it - can it play them. I have 1 rule for
codecs - avoid installing nero.

2 = 4, but tomorrow the computer may change that.

Did you do the things to do that I said.

Is what I started writing. then I checked. It isn't your thread. It's
victors thread. You should start a new one. You need to post the full error
messages anyway. Your problems are not similar (he is getting application
crashes not blue screens). Having both in one thread will lead to confusion.
Depending on error messages your may be easier to solve. Check the message
for each crash (using Nero, MC, MP whatever you had) to make sure it is the
same error.
